I always wanted to do this with a atles and a urbie mech (Using miniatures of course). Have the urbin mech painted like a beer can, (a good CANADIAN beer). The atles using the urban as a beer can and taking a drink. But never did do it. Not even sure my mini collection had the mechs for it.

Oh come on, it should at least be painted as a pint...

You know, that picture is EXACTLY one of the ways I could see the Urbanmech being used in everyday civilian operations.

PGI should give a solid gold Urbie statue to the player that can win overall in the next tournament with an Urban Mech after release. Ultimate MWO acheivement.

Nah, white and blue Urbie and the second place prize is a golden trebuchet.

I liked the idea so much, I even thought I would toss Alex a quick "concept" to do all the heavy lifting for a "MWO-ized" Urbanmech. (Seriously Alex.. you are the far better artist, so please, please please give us an Urbie concept.)

I apologize in advance, I am in Mexico and 3500 miles away from my scanner (and art supplies), so I had to clean up a cellphone picture of a quick sketch, as I won't be back in the USA for quite some time.

Hmm, imo, an interesting concept, but with that design it loses its more classic Urbie shape (stream-lined), rather than blocky. Some MWO Mechs, except a few, more closely resemble the original artwork, which is what I like more. For example, if the Mad Cat were added and looked blocky, rather than very stream-lined/elegant, it would truly lose the iconic look from the 3050 Upgrade Artwork.

The reversed-joint knees make it lose some of the Urbie's classic mojo, and it doesn't seem "rounded" enough (needs to look like a trash can). The right arm feels too long and too big. It also just feels a little too...high-tech for the lovable loser of the BT universe.

Still, it's some sexy art. It looks like a total badass but it doesn't look like an Urbie. TBH most people wouldn't recognize that as an Urbie concept if we didn't have the context of being in an Urbanmech-Day thread and you directing telling us that's what it is. That thing could be a completely stand-alone mech in its own right.

knee isn't reverse jointed. Look at the original 3025 art, and it had depressed knees too. But they are indeed, standard bi-form legs.

Original art (at least for the UM-R63):

Your concept makes it look kinda like a chicken walker but with thick legs (you over-exaggerated the depression of the knees).

actually, ORIGNIAL art.....

as for the blockiness, that is a stylistic choice, to stay in line with what Alex has already layed out for Inner Sphere themes. On an "economy" mech, one would not devote the extra resources the rounded armor would need (probably.. military planners DO do stupid things), but would point out my "Police Cruiser" is rounded)

As for Clan Mechs, I would point out that aside from the fusalage, it like most 3050 Omnis, is rather angular in many of the basic features, but stylism for Inner Sphere mechs would mean just about nothing for whatever their Clan Plans are.

Just before you replied I edited my post above to state that you over-exaggerated the depression of the knees on your concept to a degree that made them appear like chicken legs. The original art in the quote here has depressed knees but they are still quite easily distinguishable as moving in a humanoid manner.

My favorite artwork is this:

Especially the extreme rate of fire on that AC/10 and those enormous shells :)

Its got some battle damage, but is pummeling some enemy into submission. Just another day cleaning the streets for Urban.

This doesn't look Urbie at all. I hope they never change Timberwolf, Mad Dog and Urbie from their original designs.

disagree on most counts, as I severely hope the Mad Dog is based off the very well done MW4 version, instead of the bendy barreled 3050 TRO one. (and would point out that one could almost literally overlay my design over the original urbie for proportioning and placement, simple with angled armor and weapons based off existing MWO models (DRG AC and Jenner laser pod), but totally respect your opinion.

Yeah the Mad Dog did look better in MW4 as you said. I do like the resculpt of the original Dog, but still think the MW4 one was a superior looking omni.

I thought this was some initiative to teach life lessons to inner-city kids by playing MWO.

:D Your version looks kinda cool, just not like an Urbie, which simply doesn't look kinda cool, but like a trashcan...

I do remember you making some nice designs for the aforementioned clan machines, but those two are just sacrosanct for me.

I might have to reinstall MWO for this, though I doubt there'll actually be that many of us.

Because the cut scene movies and stuff, I always thought of it as:

Posted ImageIS-Vulture

Which is strange since the barrelled one reminds me more of a vulture, and you could prob paint snoopy on the other. I'd like to see both.
