Single ML is not really powerful even now.

But if you make AC20 shoot once per 10 seconds, you could oneshot a mech. :)

I don't see the relevance in it's effectiveness single. I could as easily have said "4 ML's would do 6 alpha damage then"

Under the assumption that armor is halved (back to normal) and weapon damage tweaked to get back to X damage per 10 seconds an AC/20 that fires once every 10 seconds would do enough damage to be able to rip off a fully armored head... just like in TT. And it would be the ONLY weapon (at that time) capable of doing that.

6 per Alpha is kinda serious, when you only have like 10 armor...
For example: Head can only have maximum of 9 armor and 3 internal structure.

Other example: One alpha will blow through rear armor on a Hunchback 4G.
And 10 seconds will be enough to kill it.

Just had an interesting idea while posting in the "why do people dislike the clans thread".

I REALLY like the "classic" battletech before all the new technology came up. No double heatsinks, XL-engines, ultra AC/5's, ER-weapons, endosteel, ECM, streaks, artemis or ferro armor.

Lore-wise many mechs around 3050 probably would still be models from 3025 or earlier.

So here's my idea:

Why not offer a "hardcore" mode where you can only field "classic" technology ?
In return for that you would get improved XP and/or money rewards.

Pro:
People who (like me) love the oldschool mechs will be able to field them. And while they would be at a disadvantage they would have some compensation for it. (Right now you CAN of course field them, but you would be stupid to do so).

Con:
Those who want to play hardcore will accept the risk to loose more easily due to their mechs being not up to par with the others... but people who don't want to play like that will be "hurt" by being put on the same team as "hardcore players" (as loosing will be more likely).

Nope, this might be a "fun" idea but it is not worth wasting resources to implement. PGI has a budget for this game and I would like to see them work toward that vision rather than adding in a modifier that makes the game less like what I signed up for. I'd put a pin in this idea until after PGI gives up on their lofty goals and launches this as a game centered around lobbies and client side gaming to squeeze every last ounce of money from the work they have done.

I had precisely this same idea and was going to post about it as well.

I also am a huge fan of the old school tech level. It makes things much slower and imo makes piloting much more of a challenge.

That being said, i dont think it would be a good idea for hardcore players to be mixed with normal mode. It would be too much of a disadvantage to the team and would be annoying for them.

Having a separate matchmaking system for just hardcore would be awesome, and I would play the game even more than I do now.

Also, I think the heat should probably be re-balanced a bit to be more true to the original tech.

ALSO I think it would be interesting to implement a more complex heat system into this mode that is more true to the original heat tree. I made a topic about it here.

Having original armor values i think would be a bad idea. The thing is, the 'accuracy' of the pilots in battletech is horrendous compared to the accuracy of real people playing the game. The low probability of hitting is what allowed for such small armor values.

Anyway I hope they implement this idea even if it is just a basic alternative play mode.

As MWO screwed altered TT rules big time, so chances are stock configs would not work or ballance too good...

For example:
1. Double armor without double ammo.
2. Weak heat sinks, and more then twice heat generation.
3. High heat capacity without TT overheat penalties.
4. MG and flamers suck.
5. Cake and Bacon.

Well the good thing is that everybody will have to deal with those issues in a Hardcore 3025 mode that disallows variants and customization.

The one thing I would like to see removed is weapon convergence for a Hardcore mode. Or at least I'd like to be able to experiment with it.

Meh, just make a trial mech queue.

That could actually be a rather good idea !

Why not give every player a selection of trial mechs straight out of the 3025 manual (and ONLY these) and make a seperate queue for them. That way we HAVE a 3025 Hardcore mode (for those old-school fanboys like myself) AND we make sure that experienced players with tuned up 3050 mechs are not fighting beginners in inferior 3025 models.

Why should that be a good idea?
The next guy wants to play the clan refusal wars with clantech only.
One more will have an idea for a third, forth or fifth timeline or tech restriction.

There is only one place where all those great ideas can meet and be established:
A Lobby!

I dont get why people hairsplit about if the amount of ammo per tonn is valid for 3025 and all those other stuff.
Or why people simply dismiss the gaming ideas of other players as " too small a fraction of the community" or deny because they would not like them.

With a lobby, there where a place, where all you players have space for your favorite ideas!

OP: 3025 is a great time in BT! Why dont you go set up a small website with a ladder and a List of all those original 3025 mechs and hook up other players to play a 3025 champaign with you? Maybe even with secret missions for each faction to fullfill? Would that not be great?

Ahh well, I forgot, there is no place for those ideas in MWO...

Not yet, but we can hope. The game is still "in the making". And it's already pretty awesome (or we wouldn't be here).

Keep posting good constructive ideas. Have patience and faith and it might be rewarded !
