I really want this mech to be good, but I just can't seem to find a build for the Awesome 8Q that gets out good damage without being stupidly hot. Anyone have good ideas?

I use this one every now and then;

AWS-8Q

Its heat efficiency is actually pretty good if you chainfire the large lasers... its like a large Binary laser in that sence... no stop large laser is nice to take mechs apart from middle distances.

Nvm, heavily undertonned without SHS.

And sucks with SHS.

I guess you could go for something like this?

But right now seems like it's the sun.

I'm not sure anyone could make a cool AWS-8Q build; all of their weapons tend to generate lots of heat - I don't own any Awesomes, but if I did own a AWS-8Q, I'd just slap six PPCs and a single Medium Laser in there.
Anyway, these are my attempts:

A 7x MLAS brawler with a 300 STD Engine or a 7x MPLAS brawler with a 300 XL Engine.

You need to copy the BB-Code string in the "Save and share Loadout" tab at the top of the mechbay.

You also have to manually mark the whole line, as only part of it is automatically marked.

6 PPCs is pointless, you'll never get to fire all of them without overheat. Stick to four, fire them in twos. You can get a lot of shots off before overheat comes. 2 ML's on the hand for close work.

You've... Never seen a STK-3F... Right?
It doesn't matter if you overheat. 120 points of damage at 600m in a a center torso is great.

2 ERPPC + 3 PPC, fill up with heat sinks and put in biggest engine that fits after that. Works well. Alternatively strip 1 PPC and put even bigger engine, or use standard instead of XL then.

I always go 3 large lasers, 1 small pulse (for zombie mech'ing) a standard 300 and tons of double heat sinks.

6 ppc?! LOL
you will explode immediately, or shut down for 10 minutes.

use 4 regular ppc like those atlas do, xl300, shoot them in pairs. don't use er versions though,
if you're going to use ER then stick to 3 and add a laser on the head

6 large laser is also acceptable like that build posted above, but only if you love lasers
though 5 large lasers sounds more manageable

edit: those builds from bluestar are pretty rad;
7 med laser, or 3 large + 3 pulse (though i wouldn't use this one myself, sounds like good damage)

Can't go wrong with this one;

AWS-8Q

PPC's on one button, side torso lasers on the other, and your head laser for firegroup 3, it's there for when you lose a side torso (and you will). I say this because, when mastered, you can fire 4 medium lasers and actually cool down, and you're going to run hot from the PPC fire, so you might as well use 4 med's most of the time. Use PPC's for long range, med's for short, and there's 20/20 dmg in the overlap area, which is sufficient alpha.

No, you don't. Second alpha shuts you down for long time though, but if your aim is true, enemy is shut down permanently.

I use 3*PPC and double heatsinks. If you stuff the biggest possible engine in it you get decent mobility and more room for heat sinks. Armour is the rest of my tonnage. It's not a frontline mech.
But the consistent firing and speed makes for an excellent area denial and support fire mech

4 L Lasers and all the Heatsink you can get. The diference betwen dhs and shs aint to big and if you play 2-2 you can fire almost all the Time amd you can give 3 - 4 Alphas before the lights go out. Worked fine for me. Who needs M Lasers when you allready have 4 Ls?
