You get your armor, and internals. If the shot does 15 dmg, you lost 15 armor.

No, each section has up to N points of armor and N/2 points of internal structure (except for the head that has up to 18 armor and 15 internal). Note that torsos have armor split between front and back, so N is front + back combined.
If you take 20 pts of damage to a section that has armor, you lose 20 pts of armor on that section (in case of torsos it can be either frontal armor or rear armor). If you have no armor left, you lose 20 pts of internal structure. If your internal structure is gone, you lose that section and everything mounted in there (i.e. weapons, heatsinks, etc.). Losing a side torso also results in a loss of the corresponding arm.

I'll give two examples, a limb and then a torso
For an arm, say it has 50 points of armor max. That means the internal structure(Under the armor) has 25 points of life. So it takes 50 points of damage to remove the armor and another 25 points to remove the arm completely. Note that every hit to a component without armor runs a high risk of critical hits which damage stuff in that part.
This is pretty much the same for torsos, they're just a bit more complicated, because to find out the structure value, you use the max armor allowed in the front and rear torso combined. For example, if your Atlas can have 124 combined armor between Rear Center Torso and Center Torso, the structure will have 62 points of life.
Hopefully that's straightforward enough for ya.

Yes and no. The AC20 still does 20 damage, but armor/structure values in MWO are twice what they are in table top. Same net result, but you've got things a little backwards.

I wouldn't say yea and no. That will be confusing. I would say, "No, this is blatantly false. The weapons do the damage they say."
Adding in that armor has been doubled from TT rules is unnecessary information for a new player and will simply confuse any issue. TT values mean nothing to anyone that doesn't care about the tabletop game.
