Pretty Baby Vs Treb 7M

Pretty Baby needs a buff. It's tough when its closest competitor is a mech 30 tons its junior. I own both. I've felt that Awesomes are best played like cataphracts (i.e. heavy mechs in assault armor), but I've also felt that PB's speed and lack of firepower compared to other Awesomes mean you have to drop two weight classes and play it like a medium in assault armor. Now with Treb 7M out, it compares rather closely to an actual medium class mech.

I thought they were working on the whole "colorblind players" thing!
Ok in retrospect kinda sounds like I'm poking fun at a disability, not what I intended

30 tons makes a difference.

Unlike the Treb with that giant center torso, the PB is a large target with wide side torsos, a big black missile launcher for an easy aiming point, is slower, and almost certainly has an XL engine.
I am always glad to see a PB on the battlefield, especially when its on the other team.

The Treb dies a LOT faster than the assault. I usually see them run after I hit them with 4 med lasers and an ac/20.
My catapult with an XL 300 doesn't even go as fast as the Awesome hero. The PB can torso twist pretty well and block but the Treb can't afford to do that as his right arm has 3 weapon slots and his left arm has 2 weapons. Not to mention there's a 20 point difference (which gets doubled) in terms of armor.
You also can't carry as many weapons because of that whole weight thing.

Having the same number of hard points doesn't mean it has the same firepower. Are you suggesting that a Stalker using 6 energy weapons puts out as much damage as a JR7-F?

I don't know about you, but my PB kills Ravens pretty easily.

The PB has more armour, same speed, significantly better heat efficiency, and doesn't have to use a 1 tube launcher for an SRM6 (lol).
What does the Treb have going for it? 2/5 Jump jets (that's all I could fit in and at the cost of a fair amount of leg armour and all crit spaces used. Oh and it has a smaller profile.
Sounds reasonably balanced to me with the PB having some significant advantages for being an Assault. What more do you want unless you think all medium mechs should be garbage compared to assaults?

That is usually true but when you encounter people who aim well then you need both. In that circumstance the medium fails. The medium also fails against mechs that are vastly more maneuverable than you and are using no aim weapons (/cough streak lights).
With the exception of the 7k Every Treb is carrying the majority of its weapons in the arms. Those arms are extremely easy to pop off compared to the Awesome. I think people just haven't learned the weakness of the new mech yet.
How does that Narc tube handle a SRM 6?

Please tell me how to do it right?

Because the Awesome's side torsos are actually really small. They look like this:

There's really no point in putting a Standard in a chassis like that.

It must have that larger engine capability and torso twist range to help for sniping and LRM boating I guess? Those 4 tube launchers must be where the LRM 20's go and the head energy slot is for the 3rd PPC right?
Sarcasm aside it's quite clear that the PB has numerous design features that lend well to close combat.
When you have the center torso the size of a barn door you don't really fear using a XL engine too much.

I wish that were actually the case, but alas, it is not. What you see in the mechlab is not what the hitboxes are in game (heads are a good example, the AWS side torsos are the other).
There's a thread showing what they actually are (and this is from in-game testing):

And for the AWS:

What? It dominates the Treb 7M. Sure, it has the same hardpoints, but those 30 tons result is VASTLY more loadout possibilities, and enormously more armor. They're entirely different mechs.

Why are you trying to ruin my fun.
Move along, nothing to see here, PBs have very small side torsos, so keep fitting XL engines in those things...use the massively inefficient 400XL if you can.
