Best I've seen was a team in which I was the heaviest Mech - a Stalker. Most were mediums. Opposition turned out to be five Atlai - 4 of them DCs. That was funny.

FTR, I got 2 of them ;)

I'd rather have a massive Elo disparity between teams than a massive weight disparity, who is with me?

I tend to agree. Apparently this is a known issue with the matchmaking and should be ironed out in the next few weeks. Easiest way to game the system right now is to queue up with friends, all in assaults. The matchmaking probably won't find enough assaults for the other team so you get a weight imbalance.

Couldn't disagree more. Considering the damage that a well-played light can do, the weight disparity means a lot less than a large skill disparity, imo.

Well "skill" plays it's part, but what if they have 5 lights on Alpine Valley conquest and you have 3 atlases, 2 slow heavies, and some slow mediums?

Well, if lights weren't so difficult to kill, you'd just station 1-2 mechs on each point, and every time a light blob hit one they'd kill or nearly kill one of said lights, plus holding them off.

Weight disparity, eh? Two of us died immediately at the end, a stray shot got one and the ammo explosion from him killed me.

The real problem is that it cheapens the experience to have an uneven playing field. If they have more lights than I do, and I get capped out, I lost because they had more lights. I did not lose because I failed to defend base. I did not lose because I was unable to shoot a light mech with anything besides streaks if my life depended on it. I lost because they had more lights.

If I am outbrawled by superior weight, I didn't lose because of my accuracy or because of their flank or because of their ability to disrupt my formation, no I lost 'cus they had a bunch of atlases and I didn't.

Unless the playing field is even the victor cannot claim to have superior skill, because the loser can always say that he only lost because of the discrepencies in weight distribution. When the weight is even there is no reason for defeat except being a worse mechwarrior and you have to face it.

its not that nice, your playing conquest and have 3 light mechs they had 1. It was a forgone conclusion that your was gonna win.

Yeah, that was such an absurd match.

The only issue I see with MM at the moment in regards to weight is the lack of an ECM capable heavy. I've had a few drops with my entire team in heavies, only to see the other team with DDCs and Ravens. It hasn't happened often, but it does highlight the need for an heavy to get the ECM love.

I wouldn't mind if ELO put more emphasis on weight distribution and ECM among both teams. Other than that, it seems to be working fine, though it takes a large number of matches to get you dialed in.

I propose the Dragon gets ECM. All 3 variants.

I didn't even know this was possible. That's awesome! How long has this been in the game?

I'll just point out that we had 1 ECM mech (a commando) and they had a team full of long-range power including LRMs and Gauss.
Now since winning by cap requires splitting up, the enemy had a good chance (and used it) to just pelt us with long ranged fire.
Caustic really isn't all that big, especially when the enemy holds Theta.

Can't base anything on tonnage. I would rather have a 35 ton raven on my team than an 85 ton stalker most of the time.
