You know that sounds like a good idea. I might buy one to make myself feel better when I die from one. Well that and a Raven 3L. Currently I only run Centurions, Hunchbacks, and Trebuchets.

The fact is, the splat cat is fragile and is easy to incapacitate. Nerfing it would make it completely useless...and that's the last thing this game needs is more useless mechs.

the splatcat is pretty easy to counter if you know how and good players really do know how.
when i play my splatcat there's usually 2 options:
I kill 4-6 mechs and get 600/700+ damage
I get killed almost instantly after i first pop-up with max 100 damage.
people whining about the splatcat being overpowered are just bad players IMO.
if you just play like a team and think before running towards a splatcat there is no problem defeating them.
so often is see people just running towards me to get killed in 1 or 2 shots, and then its ''OMG splatcat sooooo lammeeeee''
so my advice to all the haters out there; Learn to play the game...!
Since the srms have limited range and the catapult is fairly easy to head shot and focus down, there isn't much of an argument for it being overpowered. Yep, I've been on the receiving end of one more than once, and they have made me a better player rather than being able to document the inability to find a defense against them.
The argument at this point "to me" is why is it overpowered just because they do alot of damage in an alpha strike, and why is situational awareness and good aim not a reasonable counter measure?

What exactly are A1s supposed to do ? All they have are missile hard points. 2 of the 3 weapons they could mount are completely useless if the klingon cloaking device shows up. The chassis can not mount a TAG so if they take LRMs they are completely at the mercy of the gods of randomness whether the enemy has ECM(s). Ditto for streaks. MRMs aren't in the game.
So unless they bribe a teammate into carrying TAG or ECCM for them 24-7, the only weapon they can mount that will work all the time is SRMs. I don't even own an A1 but if I did, 36 SRMs is the obvious armament. Because you can always use them.
I remember when A1s used to carry a balanced mix of LRMs and SRMs before the 1.5 ton piece of crap was added to the game.

It just needs to be forced to drop onto long ranged maps like alpine 50% of the time
I run my 6SRM6CAT often. It was the mech I played in closed beta. It was the mech I played in open beta when everyone had streaks. I remember running it when it was a rare build and the mechs that caught me in the tunnel melted under the SRMS. I've played it a lot and carry a load of XP over the mastry.
I like this idea. I wish I could drop with it on alpine for 50 or 100 maps in a row. It took me probably 100 matches in this thing to get really good with it. I've dropped on apline with it a grand total of one time, where my mouse died in the middle and I ended up getting cored while running into a wall whilst trying to plug in the backup mouse.
ProTip: Plug two mice into your computer, if one burns up grab the other. (This setup also works well if you have 2 different sensativities for two different mice. Snipe with the slow, brawl with the fast.)
I've been dropping in my A1 quite a bit of late trying to get alpine to learn how to make an extremely effective short range mech work on such a large open battlefield and if they could rig it where the A1s drop into Alpine even more than 50%, say 75% or 90%, I'd be totally down with that.
But honestly, the cat isn't that dangerous in the hands of someone that hasn't got that many matches under their belt. It's range is pretty limited to 200m or so with the spread. I've only been killed by one SRM cat in my playtime, running an ATLAS D-DC with some LRMS and some PPCs. I was pinging someone far away and the cat got in right behind me without me noticing. Then alphaed me a couple times and I was done. If you think that cat didn't have to work for that kill you're dead wrong. It was a combination of my lack of situation awareness and their extreme skill to identify a DDC atlas, verify that the short range aspect was weak. Sneak all the way across the map without being detected, then striking swift and hard to take that target out. I can respect that kind of skill all day long.
Likewise I find it skill when someone parks one in the tunnel on frozen. Meching is about forming a bond with the machine you pilot. Knowing it's strengths and weaknesses inside and out.
See you on Alpine, I'll bring the A1

Definitely not the only one. If they were to add 2 energy hardpoints to the CT, I might consider using an A1. But as it has all of its weapons in the arms and they are all missiles, I steer clear from it. Its the only catapult I don't have maxed out.
It doesn't give many options. You can't really missile boat with it anymore than you can with the C4 or C1 because of tonnage and critical limitations (all in the arms). The only 'effective' configuration is the 6SRM6 one. Using 6 LRM10s is just wasteful when you could just do 4 LRM15s with Artemis. But then you only have LRMs.
Mixing LRMs and SRMs might prove some useful results, but you're still vulnerable to a disarming focus fire. I've found a cheap Cicada build that can disarm the A1 in 3 shots to each arm from 600+ meters. With max armor and 144kph it wouldn't be easy to catch.
Overall the complaining is from the vocal minority that cannot adapt. I cannot be THAT good at MechWarrior that the A1 doesn't ever give me trouble yet gives everyone else hell.

They can be more annoying in my experience. I usually run all the way around the map, taking valleys and cliff passes. Places that nobody goes to. I will usually try to flank from behind (as all splatcats should); or I will kill who ever happens to cross my path. I like the bigger maps, it allows me to play more cat and mouse.

The mech chasis itself is fine, its the boating effect that is insanely OP. As to having fewer mechs that are good, your basically saying what everyone else is so thanks. Your saying there are only a few good variants (because of ECM, boating, and SSRM's with ECM) due to the current system. So again thanks.

It will as people use more long range weapons as the maps are less CoD and more MW, and with it people learn where high spots are and can snipe then before cats get 1 shot off. It has already started happening but its a slow process as 99.98 of the maps are still 'the CoD 4'
