Amazing I know but certain types of shotguns are being considered for the chopping block by our wonderful masters here in the US. i agree with this individuals comment:

Free Americansays:

The very arms that the ATF is trying to outlaw are the exact types which the 2nd Amendment was created to protect! The 2nd Amendment has absolutely NOTHING to do with the sporting capability of a firearm and EVERYTHING to do with the ability of the citizenry to fight off a dictatorial government and to take them out of power by force if necessary! Thus military grade firearms are the exact types which the 2nd Amendment was created to protect, PERIOD! Live Free or Die!!!

Yeah, nothing will prevent the British from invading once shotguns are outlawed.

If the US Government keeps repeatedly taking these stupid actions, they are basically FORCING a civil revolution to occur. So much corrupt ineptitude time and time again. ;)

General Gage, the British Commander in Boston, sent his troops to Lexington/Concord to seize arms, specifically cannons, from the Patriot citizenry. Captain Parker deployed his minuteman company in Lexington and held long enough for the British advance guard to deploy from column to line, giving enough time for Samuel Adams to depart with documents for the Congress and for the militia in Concord to move the guns. The bayonet charge by the British Marines was an added bonus strategically for the militia in Concord (though hurtful to the Lexington militia, as they lost more men to this than the volley) as it took about an hour longer to get the Marines to reform and enable the march to Concord to continue.

At the moment any government attempts to seize your weapons, it is the time to put a line in the dirt.

Over the years they've gotten smarter about banning arms versus wholesale confiscation. It's the frog in boiling water technique, they know they wouldn't get away with a large scale gun grab. So instead they'll get otherwise logical citizens to concede to things like "you don't need a shotgun that holds a box magazine for sporting purposes" then "you don't need a shotgun that holds more than three rounds for sporting purposes" when all the while "sporting purposes" are not the only legal and constitutional uses for a shotgun in the first place. They frame the debate under a false pretense to get their desired answer.

It's almost like the US government is trying to make the people of the USA rise up and take the first shots... oh wait... maybe they are?...

This too.

And that if a group of citizens take the first shot it will be easier to control the sheepole and just designate the discontent people as terrorists, and gain UN support as well...
They might be corrupt, greedy, and mostly ignorant of their own selves, however that doesn't mean they can't be at least somewhat clever...

Well in this century if you don't have combat aircraft, artillery and tank you are not going to topple any dictatorship. That being said, there are some dictatorships that have been toppled by merely protesters taking to the streets so...

Not trying to troll here. Is anyone willing to explain to me why the right to freely buy weapons is so important to such a large portion of US citizens?

Dymitry, it's kind of a complicated issue. For one thing, there's the Second Amendment you've probably heard about, the right to bear arms and all that. Also, there's a strong dash of male pride -- a lot of guys don't want to have to give up their toys because they self-identify with them and envision themselves using them to protect their families. And also, America is recently having issues with a general distrust of not only government (see earlier comments in this thread) but all government-related services, including police. A lot of people are under the impression that the government is "the enemy" and therefore the police must be either too incompetent to protect one's family, person, or possessions or is outright corrupt and would likely be the ones who need to be fought with those weapons.

Like most things, I'm a moderate in terms of weapon control... I don't agree that some people need to own automatic assault weaponry, but I strongly believe that each and every person should be familiar with and own a weapon. If we lived in a perfect world, we could get rid of all guns everywhere. But we don't live in a perfect world and people do need to be protected, from criminals, terrorists, or even wild animals. However, I have trouble agreeing with the statement that you need much more than a handgun to do that. (Personally, I carry knives and know how to use them.)
