Ravens - Aim For The Legs

some posters on this forum mentioned that the hitboxes on the LEGS of the Raven model do not suffer the same lagshielding as the rest of the mech.
Ive been ONLY shooting at the legs of Ravens since and, anecdotally at least, I can advise that I have 3 Raven Kills and numerous assists in my last 10-15 matches.
So this appears to be TRUE.
1. See a Raven
2. Shoot only for the legs
3. ???
4. C-Bills!
It may not work for everyone I suppose.. But I thought it was worth a heads up!

If you have no idea where your shots are really hitting and you aim at the torsos you could hit: RA RT CT LT LA RTR CTR LTR H.
9 possible hit locations. Where if you aim at the legs: just RL and LL.
So when playing Lagwarrior Online ECM Raven Edition, aiming low will deplete the armor on the 2 legs much faster than spreading your damage across 9 locations.

1) Leg armor is usually a bit less ... certainly less than CT.
2) Lose a leg and they are a sitting duck
3) If they carry SSRM/AMS they often keep the ammo in the legs
4) As stated there are only 2 hit locations in the lower body of the mech.
5) You hit the legs from any side no matter what the facing on the mech
6) The armor is low enough that it is feasible to peel it off in a reasonable number of shots (even with lag and aiming) ... which may not be true for the mechs with 50 or more armor in the legs.
7) If everyone on the team aims for the legs they don't last long.

Earlier in the beta some mechs had similar hitbox problems but they where much more obvious; when the mech was standing still (like the idle or shutdown animation) the hitbox would be incorrectly positioned by several meters in front of the mech. Since it's happened to several mechs I suspect it it's not a human mistake but a bug or known difficulty with the tools needed to bring models into the Crytek engine. PGI is probably aware of the problem and it's just a matter of trial and error for one of the artists to fudge the parameters enough that the hitboxes line up properly when loaded in the game.
Unfortunately even if you know approximately where the real hitboxes are it is still hard to hit - you need to be compensating for lag on top of the hitbox position, so you are aiming at a spot ahead of ahead of the mech. And that's if you are facing the Raven from the side and it is looking forward. As soon as the Raven turns its head you have no hope, since the hitbox follows the torso rotation (as it should) and puts the hitbox at an even more mystifying position. This is why you can be right behind a raven shooting at it and seeming to hit nothing - the Raven is looking left or right, moving the hitbox out of the line of fire and leaving a big block of air where it's upper body appears to be.
Shoot the legs and let the bird fall.

Other lights can be dealt with more directly. I have no problem put my large lasers or gauss rifle shots into the chest of a Commando - even when the aim isn't perfect I'm still rewarded with the arms flying off. Against the Raven my gauss rifle does nothing unless I use it to shoot out the legs. In the K2 with it's superior ballistic convergence the legging required is actually not any harder then hitting the Commando.

BUG : We have been adding more and more pieces to the legs of mech for various reasons. This has caused our explosion engulf code to exhibit an issue by dealing less damage than it should to the leg components from explosive weapons in certain situations.
NOTES : The system has now been upgraded to instead of using the number of pieces in the leg to the actual volume the pieces take up. Way more accurate, way more robust. This would also have affected arms if they were made of many pieces, but none really are.
DURATION : 1h
ESTIMATED PATCH : March 19th 2013
This is why my SRMs never seem to do **** to anyone who im trying to leg

Raven 3Ls have been a problem due to their mix of defense and offense and speed.
However, if players began to focus less on DPS on the raven, and more on landing hits on legs, we could get some good results.

But because of the hitbox problems the legs are FAR easier to hit. Try it out with a friendly test dummy Raven, he stands still and you shoot where you think he should be. Watch in amazement as your shots go right through him.
The hit boxes are shaped funny and do not overlap the model, as was said earlier the boxes move as the Raven twists so you're more or less just guessing where his hitbox actually is.
This isn't a LTP issue as Jenners, Commandos and Spiders are all much much much much easier to hit than Ravens are.
