We have tanks, we have DPS, why not have a healer?

I heard a rumor of a thread regarding repair bots, but was not able to find it. It is an epic idea and think it would work well in the MWO world.

The 'healer' is off site as he is too valuable to risk in combat. He's called a tech, and works in a mechbay.

No thanks. Mechwarrior is a tactical game, and your decision on how aggressively to pursue a damaged enemy mech is extremely important.

With repair bays, it isn't. Every damaged mech that falls back is a new mech that will return to battle.

In addition, why bother taking a heavier mech? Extra armor isn't as important when faster mechs have the capability to retreat and replenish theirs. This idea has come up before and it shouldn't be considered, as before.

I see your point. I dont necessarily agree with it, but MWO seems to have a different crowd. Calling this a tactical game is very generous given most of the population run to the middle of the map and just mash weapons buttons until they overheat. I will assume you are not part of that crowd. Having nothing but mad robot smash will get boring fast and I love the mechwarrior universe to death. Maybe I will reserve judgement until more of the game gets fleshed out.

Healers are the Engineers and Technicians that repair your mech for free ;)

Dev's already said this won't happen. And I agree it should not happen. Just because it is an mmo does not make it an mmoRPG.

The only magic here is the magic PGI is working on this game. I think you are focussed on the wrong genre, this is science fiction, not a fantasy setting. :D

Why not a Repairmech or an Ammosupplymech or an Construktionmech (for EMP-Mines or stationary Wappons ).
You dont need new Mechs but you only need the Equipment for the Mechs !

Take an Atlas and install two Repairlasers , or take an Catapult and install Construktionmoduls , or a Raven who can install transportmoduls for Rockets or ohter Ammo .

But MWO is not a taktical Game ! Run and shoot is the Name off the taktic in this game !
For a 5 minute Round you dont need all the taktical things. Do the same as all others -Rush and Shoot so fast as you can .

Sry for my english !

we need a module that allows a commando to summon an atlas!

quests we need quest giver mechs on the maps that have a yellow '!' above their head.
  • collect 15 commando arms
  • destroy 10 LRM mechs
  • cap 20 points on conquest

the point is we want this game to be different. if i want to play team fortress 2 then i will go play team fortress 2. when i play MWO i want to play MWO not team fortress 2, battlefield 3, or any of the other MMOFPS disasters.

Oh now... the "holy trinity" has been the staple of PVE MMO design for years. The major difference with MW:O (besides lack of magic to do instant healz) is it's a PVP only game - making healers just the first target. Watch some EVE Online fleet combat to see what I mean. If you're ship can repair other ships it goes pop first - usually within the first 20-30 seconds of the encounter.

I don't like the MMORPG mentality of roles.

Mechwarrior comes with its own roles and they do not include "Healer."

Actually the 'magic' in the game currently is ECM, which is most certainly fantasy and not sci-fi. While a healer mech is about as off the wall as ECM's current implementation, I certainly wouldn't support it. Doesn't fit the mechwarrior theme/history at all.

We won't do it, because it doesn't fit the setting at all. And besides, if you want holy trinity, you lack a tank, because no mech here is a true "tank". Just look at modern MBTs. They are speedy, instakill enemies and have powerful armor... where do they fit? It's the same with mechs.

lol made me laugh

i try.

i am sorry to the OP for being harsh, but whether you realised it or not you fundamentally desecrated the core concept behind this game. suggestions like "heal beams" are a direct insult to the lore behind this game.

many of us have come out of our holes because we were promised something new and different. anything that brings this game toward over used ideas like these is going to be resisted vehemently.

Holy crap what an amazing idea. Healing mechs that shoot healing bullets, and scalpel lasers. LRMs can be like those koto bombs in starwars. You sir are sitting on a goldmine.
