-if Clan mechs started appearing in-game without any advance warning?
I think it'd be very difficult for PGI to sneak them in under the radar but what if? Imagine those 8 people, the first 8 people to experience the clan invasion. That single instant where the scout acquires LoS and the targetting computer just says UNKNOWN
Think about all the buzz over the first topics, all the skepticism about the first screen shots being innaccurate or doctored, all the people jumping onto the game just for a chance to see it with their own eyes.
It would be magnificent!

Would be awesome but wouldn't happen
and if it did happen, it would have to be against the dev team which would mean your chances of seeing it would be slim... Oh well. Chances of them sneaking it in would be the same as Half Life 3 coming out on steam tomorrow

I could sorta see PGI rolling out a few Clan mechs and jumping into a few random matches...and then not doing any more and putting them away until their planned release date. Just to troll us. The forum would be rather hilarious. The few people who saw them would be akin to UFO fanatics, in terms of the reaction they'd recieve.

Personally, I think they should do it. They should drop 5v8 in an Adder, a Stormcrow, two Timber Wolves, and a Dire Wolf. Even if they eventually balance things totally differently, they should have all the OP Clan stats for the debut. I think it would be an entertaining publicity stunt.

Ever heard of this super secret club of players who they've hand picked to test features and changes before we see them? You know, the ones who are sworn to secrecy about what they're actually doing?
Now, I'm not saying that those people were REALLY chosen to play as the Clans when they first invade, or that they'll just start dropping in matches without any warning one day, but you know, they probably are, and they probably will.

Anyone who solo PUGed during the first week of Open Beta already experienced the "Clan" Invasion. It was hellish, lemme tell you.
