I've been running my DC Altas without Endo and with the 300 STD engine that came with it. Having played around a bit on smurfy I found I can upgrade to a 325 STD engine if I also buy Endo, which will set me back 3M Cbills total. I was wondering if anyone who's tried a similar engine upgrade on an Atlas found it's worth it not only for the 4kph boost, but is the torso twist and turn rate increase noticeable?

I haven't tried it yet, but many people like them, not just for the maneuverability increases. Another factor to consider is the additional heatsink slot in the engine. Buying endosteel and a 325 will only cost you 11 slots instead of 14, assuming you use the engine slot. Buying a standard 325 or 350 is on my to-do list at the moment for use in several Atlas builds.

I use the Standard 350 or Standard 360 myself. 300 and 325 are both too slow for my tastes.

My vote goes for 350 too. You can make tons of good builds with that, along with another level of maneuverability.

Hmm seems the 350 is popular, I guess I'll play around more with smurfy and see how I can decrease my current load even further :)

350 is good for an Atlas. You can still get good firepower for it. You might not want to get Endo if you are packing lots of DHS though, but if you only need a few you can make something like this - D-DC 350 standard

You really don't need a truckload of weapons. An AC20 or a pair of UAC5, triple SRM4/SRM6 and whatever spare weight you can give the two arm hardpoints.

Which is still a truckload of weapons.

Put me down as another fan of the 350 - the maneuverability really does make a difference and is a nasty surprise for anyone who thinks they can Circle of Death you. I'm using the 330 on my current Atlas and it also gets the job done :)

Yeah, leave the warship designs to the Stalker. It has all those hard-points stock.

Just put the 350 in my DDC and had a couple of games, especially upper torso twist really feels quite a bit faster. Really looking forward to getting speed tweak and x2 on basics (after some heavy grinding for Cbills), thanks for the recommendations everyone!

Has anyone named their Stalker the Yamato? (no sexual puns intended).

If you have the weight and tonnage to spare, always get the bigger engine. It allows you to move faster, twist your torso faster and store more heatsinks in the engine. Engine heatsinks are more efficient if you are using DHS upgrades, being 2.0 instead of 1.4.

I run a 325 in mine(Endo/DHS/Artemis). After Elite speed tweak and all that, the 325 feels plenty responsive, and the extra weight goes towards AC20 and SRM ammo. Just use your weapons intelligently and the difference of one or two heat sinks shouldn't matter.

My DDC:

350 std
18 DHS
endo
ECM
2 ERLL
AC10 & 2 tons ammo
3 SSRM2 & 2 tons ammo
592 armor

Will overheat if you go nuts with the lasers. I've tinkered with it a lot. Used to have twin AC2, which I dropped for an LB10X, and finally went for the straight AC10. Also used to pack 18 SRMs, but I found the streaks a lot more effective. My most recent change was altering the ammo load out from 45/100 to 30/200. I lean heavily on the streaks, and found that I'd run out of ammo for them long before the AC, so I made the logical change.

Only up to 250, past that it's extra room for more DHS.

My two cents: you should consider upgrading at least to an AC/20. It's only 2 tons and 3 slots, which you should be able to get from somewhere. If your focus is more midrange (it seems like that's what you're going for, but correct me if I'm wrong) twin UAC/5 is really really amazing. The range of a gauss rifle and 2-4 times the DPS depending on how many jams you get. They also run really cool so that might help you out with those heat issues.

Where would I scare up 2 tons from? The only place I can think of is to drop the engine rating. Which I just cannot justify doing, the heap is too slow as is. But I've found it performs just fine as an all'rounder. The way it is now, I simply can't justify changing it. It just works for me.

I like Hemstif's suggestion :D

If it were me, I'd drop a DHS, drop the leg armor to 49 each (I used to run this on my Atlas and I think I got legged once), drop the arm armor to 60 each, and put a couple of points into CT armor, but there's a bunch of valid ways to do it.
