So with new rules supposedly coming out for Land Air 'Mechs in Interstellar OPS... can we have them?

I love LAM's but I don't think that the netcode (or the torso twist speeds of mechs) could handle the insanely fast speeds of a LAM speeding by at 880kph.

Yep. LAMs were basically Veritechs in all but name and weapon loadouts. Same visual designs, same three modes (plane, robot, half-plane half-robot). If we can't have 'unseen' mechs because they just visually are identical to Macross designs, don't think we'll ever see ones that not only look identical, but also work the same way too.

No we will not.

The maps do not support the kind of maneuverability LAMs have, nor does the netcode, and it is undoubtable that there are places you can see from the altitude that LAMs can reach (orbit), that would not look like geography.

this is valkyrie fighter from macross:

look familiar? the copyright folks certainly thought so. LAMs = unseen, and the prospects of seeing any of the unseen in mwo are slim to none

@pOOk, both of those images are of "mecha" in the gerwalk mode which is the intermediary configuration of a Veritech fighter from the Macross story line.

fighter jet, gerwalk (fighter jet with legs), guardian (humanoid mecha)

That doesn't even matter, Catalyst made new art and new LAMs. The issue is that they wouldn't work in this game. (or they would work too well)

My TT knowledge is rather limited, but aren't LAMs something that even the original designers of Battletech regretted adding because they were lame?

I mean, the idea was clearly nothing more than a ripoff of Macross that never really made sense in the BT universe/ruleset.

Land Air Mechs, LAMS.

Medium and Light mechs that devote precious tonnage to equipment to allow them to transform into substandard, easily shot-down, aerofighters. You too can create a light or medium mech, devote another 10% of space to the LAM equipment, and be disallowed from using Endosteel, Ferro, or XL engines.
Marvel in the glory of the LAM.

As for good news.
This is the year the Nova Cats capture the last LAM factory in existence, and promptly burn it to the ground.

They were easy to make them OP in battletech. Just stay in Airmech mode, jump 15+ hexs, shoot them in the back.

Customs with tons lof medium lasers made them the best choice for any game.

I'd settle for lambs populating the maps. Lambs that you could squish.

For one XP each! Then you could run around in the forest killing lambs and boosting your mechwarriors skillz!

That would be a fantastic sight in MWO...
You would launch and fly over the battlefield, admiring the scenery with a birds eye view of the landscape. If only Betty would stop screaming "Warning Targeted" and "Incoming Missiles" constantly...

LAMs are the original cheese mech, and would ruin this game. I hope to high hell they drop any notion of adding them right into the shred bin where they belong.

Ok well, maybe they can add one that has ecm and 6 missile hard points :-P

This player speaks the truth... LAMS strafing runs were > Mechs by about 100x.... Only dedicated mass anti air fire was effective at bringing them down.
