For simplicity sake, I would like to see the arm reticle removed when there is nothing in our arms worth aiming for. I'm glad that in the catapult, you can't open the bay doors if there's nothing to fire from inside of them, so hopefully this is understandable as well.
It would clean up the HUD.

I'm okay with this, but it would probably bother me that it's missing. I'd be like "wait a minute, something's not right here" and not be able to figure out what's missing >_>

I can't really think of anything besides a gauss/boomcat that has nothing in its arms to shoot with. I think a broader system of allowing players to choose their reticles would be a better goal.

There should simply be a toggle key that locks the arm reticle to the torso reticle.

It could be used to get get rid of the arm reticle for mechs with no arm weapons... Also it would help mechs that have similar weapons in both the arm and side torso such as the cataphract 3d with two gauss. Lastly it would help new players who get horribly confused by having two reticles.

There's literally no reason not to have a "lock arm reticle to torso reticle" toggle button. This is up there with "rotate legs to torso", "jettison ammo", and "directional jumpjets using numpad" for keyboard commands this game seriously needs.
