What is gimped mech?
For me,
A1s are not cheesy and 5Ns are not gimped...

The trial Mechs run to hot from either to high a rate of fire or to slow of a heat dissipation time. Heat dissipation should match the weapons average "cooldown' times.

Yesterday she joined me in a group with her shiny new C4 in PC Gamer colours and actually had a good time. In a trial you're just bug smear on a mech's wind screen.

I really don't get why the devs base heatsink cooling on a TT 10 second rule for a turn but change everything else.

DDCs are not cheese...
Seriously, i can't find a cheesy mech... You have 1 trick ponies, but never cheese...
Btw, i prefer balanced optmized builds like my xl210 4 med laser TDK...
Discounting trials... I don't find any mech gimped as well...

Most people don't whine when they get cheese on their pizza or hamburger, if they do they can just not get cheese on their slice. But the cry is" we don't want anyone to play something we don't like"
So what is cheese? It is a mech build that your favorite mech is weak against.

Gimped = Raven 3L - what can this mech even do? Everybody knows ECM is a huge waste, streaks take like forever to lock, and Ravens blow up so easily while they putt along at like what 100kph.

Rest i have every variant (almost, 1 more awesome to go)... I have found subtle nuances that make them balanced... Example - cataphract can't bring its weapons to bear when fighting at a disadvantaged elevation... Etc. Etc.
You will have to pilot each mech to get a feel for its nuances...

Gimped = Awesomes in general. I almost never see an Awesome do well for their weight class, the poor dears. Their massive hitboxes and questionable hardpoints combined with the fact they're paired against the much scarier Stalkers or Atlai mean that they never seem to contribute meaningfully.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of defining cheese. This is exactly what I've been trying to convey. Cats are cheese because they sacrifice very little to be good at what they do. Awesomes are gimped because they sacrifice a lot to do the things they do.

I run a stock CN9-A a quite a bit of time, and I use it as it was designed. I dont play in premades I have been playing as PUG lately. And my best to date with that stock CN9-A is 3 kills 5 assists, 670damage done in a win. Doesnt sound like much but thats a big deal when facing uber modified damned near clan lick'em stick'em mechs.

IE - 3L is cheese as you cannot out run it, you could out gun it if didn't had wonky hitboxes and lag shield. Oh and ECM. So while the 3L pilot pushes the "do damage SSRM" key you are cursing the Clans because none of your weapons registered hits on his torso.
Gimped = should be every Hero mech in some way or the other, or the game starts slipping into P2W.

However, I doubt any of this would be a problem if we are given Mission based gametypes to give each pilot important roles to carrry out objectives.
