In my experience, and many share that view, LBX 10s only makes sense if your mech lacks the critspace or tonnage for AC/10s.

LB10Xs would be awesome if you had the option to run solid slug or cluster rounds (especially with the ability to swap between the two), like in table top. But alas, I do not think that is to be. As things stand now, LB10X is the ballistic of choice for light hunting or to nail someone that's already lost all their armor on a location or two. But it is not a good "shell-cracking" weapon.

On a heavier chassis like the K2? Eh. Well, you'll be doing a lot of sandpapering, the problem is surviving the (disproportionate) response the other team is going to throw at you.

- After that, worked up to replace the stock 260 STD with a 300 XL. That didn't work out. The slower 260 forces me to close slower, which meant I get more shots out of the AC10s before I close to brawling range. The more powerful 300XL meant I closed faster and the GunCat is not the best brawler for me. So eventually I stripped the 300XL out...
Just turn your throttle down if you want to approach more slowly. Also, the extra speed should help keep distance, not close it. Use the K2's huge twist angles to your advantage.
And I can't agree with whoever said XL's make Cats more vulnerable. I've been running cats all last week and this week, all with XL engines, and I've only died once to a side torso kill.

That was me. I've been running my 2 LL, 2 AC5 cat for over 2 months, and I lose the torso mounted ACs with the arm mounted lasers still operable so damn often it isn't even funny.

Well that just seems bizarre to me. The huge CT hitbox is one of the Cat's main weaknesses and is almost always my downfall, with headshots coming in a distant second, and legging a distant third. I never skimp on side torso armor, and with their tiny hitboxes, it just never seems to be an issue.

I am rarely legged. I agree with the CT and head, those have been my experience as well. But I frequently lose components in the side torso before losing an arm. I rarely lose an arm without the cause being side torso destruction.
It may seem bizarre to you, but this has been my experience. At least in a K2. People focus fire on the torso areas because that is usually where the most dangerous weapons are, and if you are packing an XL, hey, bonus. Most likely, the torso loss is a side effect of people trying to core me, but shots being inaccurate due to movement. The arms on a K2 are too slim to be accurately targeted, so most people go for the higher reward of torso shots (and hope for a lucky head hit or two).

Used one a small number of times. First time out I got killed by taking an Alpha from an Atlas at point blank. In the cockpit. Dude was as surprised as I was, he just turned and unloaded on me in a panic. Second time I took it out I ended up in Alpine. That didn't go well.

enjoy
however you might collect some "honorable" knight tears by killing them with this crossbow before they can get close enough to swing their sword

Tried 2xAC10 and 2xGauss - current maps are tight, and ping (average 160) + fire lag makes short distance for balistic weapons preferable.

2ERPPC/2PPC/XL300/DHS/ES
2ERPPC/2UAC5/XL280/DHS/ES
2ERPPC/2AC5/XL280/DHS/ES
2ERPPC/1Gauss/XL280/DHS/ES
2ERPPC/1AC20/STD260/DHS/ES
All are reasonably fast for heavy mech, can fight at any distance, and are generally fun to play.
I'd not worry about XL engine in Catapult. By the time side torso starts to fall apart, there is usually not much center torso or head remaining anyway.
K2 was the first mech I purchased instantly after Open Beta started. Used to run a build with:
2LL/2ML/2UAC5/XL280/DHS/ES when I started. Can recommend that too, but I like the looks of PPC barrels too much to put anything else in the arms.

takes some accuracy to use, but its one of the best sniper builds for me in the game atm, good against any size mech

Fairly basic, no frills. I like to stick with the ERPPCs over ballistics because I don't like dealing with ammo - this thing is built for endurance. Especially as maps get bigger and games run longer, I like not having to worry about running dry. I like the ERPPCs over standard PPCs for the increased long range as well as the lack of a minimum range, although they can run a little hot when used up close with the two MLs.
I'm thinking of taking off the two MLs and putting a pair of MGs back on, just to see how this crit tweaking they've done works. The lack of heat is also a nice touch, it'd let me run the ERPPCs harder when I'm up close.

The only problem I see with this is that you are specializing in 2 things. The PPCs for sniping and the AC20 for brawling. It may be more effective to use AC2's of 5's. Just a thought!

you will need Endosteel, an XL Engine and DHS though.
My Buld has a 265XL Engine, 13 DHS, nearly full armor, 2 PPCs, 2 AC/2. 2 MLaser, and an AMS.
Since the AC/2 are not your primary weapon, 2 tons of ammo are more than sufficient, I never managed to use all of it in a fight.
If you put the AC/2s on chain fire, 1. you have the psychological effect of sustained fire, while your PPCs reload, which should not be underestimated, 2. you can use the AC/2 rounds as tracer for your next PPC volley.
I had lots of fun with this build, and still have.

Did you know you have an ton of AC5 ammo in the machine's head? Which would be fine if it had an AC5, but it doesn't.
