I shouldn't see anymore of the following:
  • Firing of LRM's at a target 50m away
  • Mechs running into walls
  • "test" firing at the beginning of a round
  • "What's the key for chain fire?"
Anything else I'm missing?

No you will see some of that still.

You can lead a Hel's Horse to water and all that...

.......

The only way you are going to get rid of this is to prevent firing for the first 5-10 second of a match.

"Good luck with this"... :(

No amount of hand-holding or being lead around by the bullring can stop people from being people.

Technically, Morgan Kell used LRMs fired at short range to batter Yorinaga Kurita's Warhammer after he disabled Kell's Archer. So if anything, we should get some ballistic damage out of it. :D

Question: why is "test" firing at the beginning of a round a bad thing? Assuming the shots don't hit you or your teammates, does the sight/sound just annoy you? You're not worried about giving away your spawn point, right? I suppose knowing that someone on the other team has a PPC (or whatever) might provide a (very) slight tactical advantage, but is it really enough to complain about? [Also, in counterpoint, "test" firing provides info to your own team re: load-out...]

Personally, I have no problem with "test" firing at the beginning of a match so long as it doesn't result in self-inflicted team damage.

I'm hoping that the Testing Grounds will also fix the problem of people shooting at their feet because they lost their arm reticule. I'm also hoping that it'll fix the problem of people not knowing how to aim sideways while walking.

Of course, it will do none of those things, but I can still have hope.

Things will certainly get better, but as to the test firing, I do that anytime I switch out weapons. I prefer weapon groups to fire according to which side they are on (left weapons to left arm, etc). I'll likely fill this out in the training grounds, but doesn't mean I won't do it during the match :(

I also plan to practice against one of my friends who has a 3L to develop strategies to counter them, among other things. Heck, one thing I definitely intend on doing is to get both of us to have 0 armor and a heavy ballistic weapon or two, move ~800 or so km away, and to a cowboy quickshoot for the funs of it :D

It can be very dangerous for a small fast Jenner at spawn with all the test firing going on.

Unless the testing grounds give you an IQ test and uninstall the game for folks who fail, I don't see how it's gonna reduce any of the issues you mentioned.

Wait... The training grounds will have targets in it?
For some reason I thought that people would just spawn in an empty map - allowing them time to figure out piloting and all that jazz...

There is one, main, big, huge, GIGANTOR thing that a testing ground will fix...

When a player walks into combat and gets blown to pieces they can then go, test some stuff out, and learn just how to return the favor.........

instead of quitting 'cos the learning curve and hungry dogs. (and comprehension in general)

This happens to me on a few mechs because the secondary fire button (right mouse key) is sooooo dang twitchy on my RAT7 mouse.

That would work.

I think part of the problem is that in MW4:Mercs a person could set up a server to require you to "fire" your weapons to spawn. It was useful to prevent spawn camping - getting hit by enemy mechs camping a spawn area just waiting for you to appear (in respawn games). By having the option to wait and spawn when you wanted, you could wait until there weren't any mechs around or between recycle times to click and respawn. For those of us that played regularly, it was habit to fire our weapons (I've broken the habit I promise :D

I'm sorry. Is the testing ground implemented? Or is it still 'coming' ?

You put me in a hot combat situation in a spider at 137,5km/h and you bet your *** my lack of attention span and reaction speed will pancake me against a mountain.

Especially if is a canyon...or city...or anything with things steeper than hills.
