Hey everyone,

I've started working on a original illustration of a Warhammer and Stinger Battlemechs moving into an opening along a river. This is for a fullscreen background image on a website I'll be making as a point of reference about the unit I'll be building for MechWarrior Online. I thought you guys and gals might be interested in it.

So far I'd done the initial sketch, with some grayscale shading to give an idea how the shadows are going to fall. I'll endeavour to continue to update this as I start colouring and finishing it off. The big grey block in the middle is the area for web content.

That's awesome! I'll have to start doing sketches again myself.

Good stuff. I can't even draw a convincing stick person, so I'll leave the art to the artists. I was hoping I wasn't clicking on this thread to find someone complaining about the background, as I like it quite a bit. Better than vanilla forums out there. Those just result in eye fatigue for me. I like what you have working, as long as it's still relatively dark (again, like the current one), so I can be on the forums into the wee hours of the morning (like I usually am), and not work myself into a migraine.

OR, the devs could have a rolling wallpaper scheme where every few days, it changes, then rolls around to the first one again when the list is done. Would give numerous fans the chance to put their stuff in, if the devs accept it.

Thanks Sheogorath & Alistair. Yeah, I really love the artwork used in the background image. It was the inspiration to make this. I don't know if the colours will be totally the same, but I do want to use a muted pallette so not to contrast too much with the logo that will sit in the top centre.

I really like your Warhammer. Simple and powerful looking like a warhammer is supposed to be.

Awesome sketches John, I've read your profile I used to fight with you when you were under the name Flynn with my brother (Dark Knight I believe) with the Highlanders. I look forward to be able to drop with you again.

Thanks very much Raj! Hey Blackfang! I was talking to your brother this morning. We're putting together a new unit, preparations are underway. Shoot me a message here on the forums, or DK can fill you in. Certainly looking forward to catching up with the old crew, and reliving the good old MechWarrior days! :)

Ok. Here's an update work in progress on the website background illustration I am work on. Still need to do the Battlemechs, the water, and some additional detailing and colour correction.

If people are interested, I have some more WIP images showing how I got to this stage.

In my opinion colors are kinda to bright, would be better looking if you made them more gritty, darker.

I actually prefer brighter, who's to say every planet you drop on is going to be a dirty war torn place. Good job John, looking forward to the final design

Well I thought I'd save showing off the final version until actually launching the site too! Finally it's online. So have a look. http://wolf-spiders.org/

Awesome. I'll have to read the whole thing when I get a moment. Very well-done.

Thanks so much. Please do, feedback on the site and its content is most welcome. I've tested it in everything other than IE at this stage. But there might be issues with IE. The site is all HTML5 and includes many CSS3 features, such as multi-column styles. These are still a lil funky, but should work fine on Gecko and Webkit.
