Merging Threads Discourages And Effectively Silences Discussion (This Is Not About Coolant Flush)

The moderation in this forum is getting a bit ridiculous. The effect of merging all the coolant flush threads (into a thread from December, really?) is to stifle discussion about this topic and discourage people from mentioning it.
Yes, we will have repeat threads. Yes, they're all pretty much talking about the same thing. Since when was that such a bad thing though? OK, it's a bit much when the majority of the threads on the first page are talking about how terrible coolant flush is (and the other half is talking about the fact that people are whining too much) but hey, at least that's a free and open discourse and can result in some good coming out of it.
But rather than that, it appears that the mods, interpreting their role, have become censors. That may not be the intent, but that is the result, and the result is what matters.
So please, stop merging these threads. Yes, it's a privately hosted forum and they can do what they want, but if the purpose of having said forum is to provide a place for discussion. if you are stifling discussion, may as well not even have the forum.

Yeah agreed. But I saw no unique viewpoints expressed really. The only bad decision that was made was merging all the threads into that one from december that already was quite long. No matter how you turn it. The merge in itself was needed at that time because new threads restating the same, often not completely correct, arguments were being made every 60 seconds. You know the development update consisted of more than just consumables and some things are interesting discussion topics too. And after one has expressed his viewpoint on consumables in one thread he should be able to have a discussion about one of the other problems too without the according thread being pushed down to page three because someone thinks he is so bright and innovative that his viewpoint n the hot topic deserves a thread of his own.

I definitely do not agree with this sentiment at all. This is not what I saw. What I didwas the same exact response that you just gave, over and over, and over, in each and every thread. "WELL SOMEONE ALREADY SAID DIS HURR TING." It rings so, so hollow.
Yes, there is going to be some degree of duplication. But during a beta, that is what is supposed to happen. You introduce features and discuss them as they are introduced. To that end, these new features should dominate the discussion, and it should happen only rarely that you talk about something that hasn't been modified, since that implies unforeseen consequences of a current change, or a shift in the meta that reveals a previous undetected failing in game balance. The number of separate topics is a useful signal in and of itself, not to mention that once you go past a few pages, anyone who wasn't there from the start is lost anyway, and all that valuable information is forfeited.

The weird thing is when I went into the Coolant Flush thread, it seemed to be a discussion about ECM. I was confused and felt lost.

I personally think its a whole lot of 'to do / rage' over nothing.

TL;DR - random looking errors in forums confuse me - merged ahh that is what happened. Got it;

Merging threads doesn't discourage conversation, it consolidates it in one spot. Which has the added benefit, of making it easier for people who want to avoid that topic, to still find active threads to participate in.

No, it's to clean up the forums and keep all of the "discussion" in one place rather than scattered all over the board. If they wanted to end the discussion they would lock all of these threads and ban everyone who posted in them.
