Which Is The Best 50-Ton Mech?
#1

I'm not sure people will say that there are 3 equally good light mechs or 3 equally good assault mechs in this game, but perhaps it can be said about medium mechs.
In my opinion, Hunchback is the worst 50-ton mech because of its stiff upper body. Basically, it can't look up and down very far, so on a map with lots of tall hills and mountains (like Alpine), you have almost 0 firepower in many situations.
Centurion vs Trebuchet is a tough one, but I'd say the Centurion is better than the Trebuchet in most situations. The Trebuchet does a great job as a rapid LRM boat, and people who know how to use the jump jets can do great in a dense terrain brawl. But Centurions are just so tough, and with their zombie CT weapons, they keep fighting until the end.
PS: Time to change the subject amidst all this P2W talk, innit?

I was tempted to do the same but didn't have the courage to start my own thread!

obviously the Hunchback 4P is undeniably "best at boating 9 Mlas", but whether that build is "better" or not is subjective. They all have strengths and weaknesses and which one is best depends on playstyle & loadout.

Explain yourself, noob!

When a Hellhound hero mech is available, I'm going to sell all my other mechs. Won't be needing them.

Of course all mechs have different strengths and weaknesses. But a Raven is still better than a Spider. By the same token, is the Hunchback better than a Centurion? I don't think so.

I enjoy main weapon on arm targeting flexibility of the main arm of the Cent (versus the torso of the hunchie)
Have been doing well in the 2 buckets I own too... but have been waiting for them to thin out a bit before I play them a lot (there are still matches where I see 4 on a team as people level them up. Hard to get a good feel for it if everyone is driving the same thing as you

For the moment Trebuchet, but waiting on Bushwacker.
Not as easy to kill with JJ and disable weapons.

Hunchback 4SP is a close second.

Oh how I miss thee, paradoxically, seeing as you don't exist yet...
Centurions are good, great mix of firepower and their ability to 'zombie' and use the shield arm gives them good endurance. Just don't use the LB-10X. Get rid of it ASAP as a single one won't do much good.
Hunchies have good armour and good firepower, but sometimes rely on their right torso too much.
Trebuchets are soft, but pack a hefty punch. Best for long range, but you can still butcher some extra armour and some streak2s/SRM6s in them for a mor close quarters abomination.

I spend 90% of my time in Hunchbacks, the 4G and the 4SP, and they are great mechs, the 4G I find does really well as a mid to long range fighter with either a Gauss or two Ultra / AC5s, both with three medium lasers for secondary, where as the 4SP is just a straight up brawler.
I like Cents as well as Cicadas. I have yet to use a Treb but I have heard and seen them used really well.

Yeah, the LB10X needs a buff. I don't like a single AC5 or AC10 either, so hard to use against lights. I only play with UAC5 or Gauss on my Centurions.

I hate that build. Looks like it has a big gun, and doesn't. It bothers me deeply.

See above. If they're balanced, you're right. If they're not balanced, one is better.

Yep, I like the 4SP and 4G too. You can surprise a lot of people with 2 UAC5s. They don't realize how much firepower you have.

Yep. It'll render both the CN9-YLW and and CN9-A useless in one fell swoop. AC20 and 3 x SRM6? Might as well give it ECM.

Of the mediums you mentioned:
The Hunchie's best offering is the SP
The Cent option is the Zombie
I don't have a Treb so I can't say on that.
So which is better, the Zombie or the SP? Depends. The Zombie offers better burst damage at close range and better speed, while the SP offers better, more accurate damage output out to a greater distance, while also offering better lateral aiming.

Well, Trebuchet has a few votes down, but that's mostly because we haven't found a cheese variant for it yet.

Funny I was going to say the same thing except about Hunchbacks.
Centurions still have that whole zombie half-splatapult thing going for them.

As for 50 toners, I'd say that Centurions are the sturdiest, and Trebuchet's are nimble and quick (Just like having a 6"5 foot ninja running around lol), and Hunchies are powerful. I have to choose Hunchback as my best 50 ton 'Mech as I've been quite loyal to them since I started playing and they usually don't let me down. They can have pretty strong builds, have a decent speed (although many people claim they are slow, which they can be but Speed Tweak can be anyones best friend). I would not recommend an XL unless you are planing on sniping or carrying som LRM's. Personally, I use 4/5 of my Hunchies as brawlers, as they fit well In this role as long as you have a little backup. If you get caught alone In this thing you can get scrapped up pretty bad, quickly as the right torso Is a huge target and Is quite vulnerable.
That's what I think anyway.
