I was watching the Mechlab video(again) and i noticed that you only got four slots for mechs. Is that your limit or is there a way to buy more through real money? Maybe there will be a second scrollover group of mechs once you get 4.
Edit: I looked at one of the screen shots and showed 5 slots with 4 filled up and room for 2 more. Maybe you get another slot every mech you buy after 3?

We don't know yet if you get more slots or need to buy them, however one of the tweetchat answers was that we could have dozens of mechs

Q: How many mechs are we going to be able to have in our stable at launch and atm how many can we unlock or buy after launch?

A: Great question. There shouldn’t be a limit to how many a person can own. Right at launch including variants? Dozens. [RUSS]

More than likely there will be a limit, and you will be able to expand with real-money items.

Apparently they're going for the "Pay money to get Mechs" rather then the "Pay money to get space to put Mechs" scheme.

For now.

sounds about right people are more willing to sell old mechs to make space for new ones.

Its rather common in F2P games to have one of the things in the cash store and in the premium sub is more character slots for a couple of bucks. Normally they are pretty cheap to get and act as a good way to get people to make an initial purchase in the cash store.

It would seem that basic account have 4 free mech bays...

This is a little bit of speculation because in one of the videos me mentions bringing a mech down into one of your FOUR mech bays.

Obviously you can unlock more bays for a cost or an upgraded account.

This is my assumption.

And yet having the answer fails to stop rampant speculation.

Unfortunately the dev answer is somewhat murky, and does not explicitly say 'you will have x slots' or 'you get a new slot per new mech', or how one gets slots, or anything really concrete, so I can understand why people are still trying to fill in the blanks even armed with Russ' above answer.

I saw a screen shot with 5 slots though, dont think they have vip yet-it was a old photo. Like i said before, i think i might have saw arrows to scroll to a second page of mechs.

Hmmm......

Ok, one of the methods of making money in a F2P game is to sell in-game money.

Buying mechs costs in-game money.

Selling mechs gets you in-game money.

Having a variety of mechs can improve enjoyment of the game (i personally like to switch things up pretty regular-like).

Allowing players to keep every mech they want to could actually generate MORE money than pressuring players to sell their mechs due to space limitations. Rather than making money of selling the bay space, you make it off selling mechs that are less likely to be traded back in.

It could work......

Chances are they will give us a base of 4 mechs (so u can have one light ,medium, heavy and assault)to begin ,with base missions for each to do. Otherwise the game will be nothing but heavies and assaults with a few med/light mixed in and skew gameplay..After that your gameplay style will determine what you will specialize into of the 4 weight classes. It's likely no one will play all 4 classes on a regular basis.Unless they have daily missions for each class to generate income for your main class. They will have some basic amount that you can earn to help support your mechs or you will be a "disowned" mech pilot after your first major battle that goes badly and you end up with an unrepairable mech..Since it's F2P they will sell extra mech bays to generate income, that's a given.Once you specialize into recon/firesupport/assault/with balanced defense as a basic player design then you can earn/buy towards the next better mech design that fits you.Since we will be the "pilot" we can specialize our avatar increasing accurracy, piloting skills etc which will further specialize your mech selection. No scout pilot would be caught dead in an assault or vica versa.A mech pilot with high accuracy would make a great fire support or recon while an assault pilot with high piloting skills would be harder to hit .They could generate income by selling "temporary"upgrades to boost these stats that degrade with each battle until they are useless components damaged by constant warfare, which would also go along with mechs passed generation to generation and stay true to the timeline/genre of a tech poor universe.
