So the whole reason supposedly, why PGI was going back on its word about not having 3rd person, was so new people could more easily learn to use their mechs. Now that we have training grounds where people can mess about to their heart's content, 3rd person is no longer needed, wanted (as shown by multiple polls) or justified. So PGI, can we get a retraction of your intent to put in 3rd person view?

If at all possible, I'd like for them to add 3rd person anyways, but only have it available for Training Grounds and any future single player modes they'll release. Sometimes, I just really, really wish I could stare at my mech and dream.

What would be the point? Would you take their word for it? What are the chances that they'd go back on it?

A statement of intent is valid right up until they change their minds.

Third person would be fine as long as it won't render things that the first person camera doesn't see.

Example - A mech is behind a hill. You use third person to look around/over the hill. Game data checks in First Person that you shouldn't see anything but the hill, when peeking over the hill you see nothing unless you have direct line of sight towards the target. This goes for everything else such as mechs behind you, etc.

Why bother with 3rd person in training ground it not going to help the new player at all....Go from running around in 3rd person to 1st person just going to hurt them more then it worth...

If it is implemented right (no advantage with views), it will appeal more to the younger crowd or those people who like seeing their robot in action. There is some merit in this, but it will be negative to existing players if it will render things a first person player normally doesn't see.

I asked my wife if we could have a 3rd person once.

That didn't go down well.

to look a their own paid paintjobs, whatever that means.

I just want to have an actual 4x zoom and turn that PIP into a rearview camera. I can care less if they plaster Loud colors onto their Deathmachines...

... would make a killer advertisement though

Because the artists spent a lot of time creating these mechs and I'd like to be able to admire mine when it's not in pieces and on fire.

True enough I guess. Still would like to hear a retraction of 3rd person.

Add an eject button, so you can pop out your mech and walk around it outside and get squished for the privilege. Additional salvage for opposition?

3rd person as an optional toggle in training grounds only seems perfect, two birds with one stone.

I could live with it being only in the training grounds.

I like the idea of a third person view only in training grounds. Like others have said the artist spend a lot of time designing and rendering them, so it would be nice to able to be able to take some screen shots to use as a desktop background, especially if you've spent MC on colors or camo.

I wouldnt even mind that when you toggled to third person that everything was disabled accept the throttle, no hud, or UI of any kind, just the ability to move around.
