If you're going to add airplanes and artillery strikes you can't forget helicopters!! Basically how it will work is that you choose a area to call in a squadron of helicopters to that position to guard or follow you. They are controlled by AI and will shoot any mechs within range. To help balance this out you need to have a command console in your mech.

Here's the tiers for the helicopter call in.

Small Squadron: 2 Helicopters
Medium Squadron: 4 Helicopters
Large Squadron: 6 Helicopters

Now the first tiers will be CBill purchasable while the 3rd tier will be MC only. This way PGI can make money off this as well as adding a great feature. Now before you guys get all angry and bring up pitchforks! THIS IS NOT P2W!! I have thought out a way to balance it as well for MC and CBill versions.

Here are the pictures for proof of balance

As you can see, It works out very nicely. Free users and paying customers will be balanced against each other in matches. Helicopters are also a big part of mechwarrior as well and can be fun to shoot down. Discuss

I approve of this message, and will mourn for it when it is buried with the rest.

Wadaya think the UAVs are gonna be? Doubt they'll have weapons, but I guarantee theyll be consumables.

Since we aren't getting any AI there won't be any AI controlled helicopters. ;)

A: Yes, but not as a pilot. Players will only ever be able to pilot a BattleMech.

Might want to rethink that.

If you've ever seen rotorcraft in Battletech, you'd know why not.

2 points of armour on the rotor. One hit and they are gone.

Helicopters can carry powerful weapons, but are fragile and move at a third of the speed of a fast mover laying down fire.

I suggest you look at US helicopter casualties during the Vietnam War.

Modules aren't suppose to be big game changers though. Just a little support. Plus with 8 players using "Large Helicopter Squadrons" you will have to fight against 48 helicopters in one match.

Welcome to why consumable Artillery and Airstrikes may not be a good idea.

*Gasp*! You mean that Coolant Flush isn't the only module in the game, and with PGI's plans for even more powerful modules, being down a module slot is a distinct disadvantage? It's almost as though a large portion of the forums has forgotten this fact!!!

Well, thankfully Paul (or was it Bryan?) posted that the artillery strike module will have higher damage for the C-Bill variant but the MC version will take effect faster (no numbers specified so we can only assume at this point that it's somewhat significant). Hopefully all future consumables will take a similar path of trade-offs.

Too bad they didn't decide to do a similar thing with coolant (i.e. MC version gives the big 35% boost while C-Bill gives two 17.5% boosts). That way it would actually be balanced because there's a disadvantage to counteract the advantage of the MC variant.
