I'm aware using CASE with an XL engine is stupid and makes no sense. I'm also aware plenty of lore variants use them combined (Centurion D anyone?). Obviously they can be removed and the extra tonnage can be used for more armor & upgrading the small to a medium laser or adding more ammo. I think it's an interesting set up for a hero mech. Inspriation came from the Hunchback IIC. And technically with the right build you could fit two AC20's on it.
Think about it.

CASE + XL is stupid within the realm of MWO, absolutely. Every build that has it is a TT/fluff build, none of their made-up Hero Mechs has it. Why? Because, since it is so useless in this game it's a dumb waste of everybodys time to design an original Mech with CASE + XL. Replace the CASE with an extra heatsink, replace it with literally anything else because nothing would be as pointlessly dumb as shoving CASE on there.

Works fine if the mech isn't pulling a lot of aggro, or if it is a 4SP. The 4SP has two hunches, and both are much lower, making it harder to get planted.
Harder, not impossible. I've lost one shoulder in my 4SP very often. Still, it is not any more a 'death sentence' than several other mechs here, and far less than the 4G, 4P, or 4H.
In any event this was a joke (unless PGI runs with it) and the XL was just to make the thing ungodly fast, but still have few enough energy that no one could go back to closed beta 4P bullshart.
I use an XL engine in my 4G now, since it has three AC2 in the shoulder. When the AC2s are shot out I might as well be dead so I really don't mind the XL.
