So, I'm a new guy and I'm trying to decide which House to sign on with. Someone already started a thread in this vein for Kurita, the Davies and the Capellans (who I already know a reasonable amount about), but I dunno if I'm sold on the economic powerhouse of the Inner Sphere! I know a reasonable amount about the Commonwealth - the joining of Skye, Donegal and Tamar into your proud nation, your economy of which the other Houses can only dream, and your first steps towards trying to settle things peacefully in the Inner Sphere, leading to the formation of the largest superpower of all the houses - the Federated Commonwealth!

But I've also heard the rumours and rumblings - a military run by wealth and position rather than merit? A tendency to favour heavier 'Mechs to a fault? The odd blemish on your military history (ahem, Promised Land debacle...)? These hiccoughs have interfered with my judgement of your realm, so it's up to you to convince me otherwise!

So, sell me! Tell me about your 'Mechs (like that lovely Zeus which we can't play), your customs, your people, your military, your politics, what you value, what you dislike (outside of the Draconis Combine), your greatest achievements, your deepest shames (optional), what weapons and battle tactics you might favour (ALL ATLASES KGO) or disapprove of - make me want to serve the Lyran Commonwealth (or more accurately, the Lyran Commonwealth half of the Federated Commonwealth)!

Most of us like big mechs with lots of guns. Liaos are our arch enemies and possibly the only faction with pilots equal to ours. There are several. The Zeus is one of our signature mechs, as are the Steiner variants of the Banshee (House Steiner is the only house still building the Banshee, and several of our versions of it are vicious). While that's all well and good, the mech that most signifies the Lyran realm is the Atlas. It's such an iconic favorite of Steiner mechwarriors that it's known as the Steiner Scout, and there have been recorded instances of its use in a scout lance for a recon in force.

Actually, no. That's a screen taken from MC2 of an actor playing Katherine, which is the daughter of our leader. Our current Archon(leader) in this timeline is Melissa, who is married to the leader of Davion. Her full name is Melissa Steiner Davion, while his is Hanse Davion. Katherine, that woman in the shot, will eventually murder her mother after the Clan Invasion, and ruin the alliance by starting a Civil War with Davion. She will be mostly hated for her selfish tyranny and many Steiners(like myself) will jump ship at that point. But for now, this is our actual leader:

Katherine has it right, Lyrans should not be under Davion thumbs. At least in MWO, we are the only faction that has a chance against the Liaos.

Being allies with does not mean being under thumbs. Being under a selfish power hungry tyrant however, does mean that. Melissa was loved by both Houses as a peaceful leader. Katherine however was hated so much for her selfish power hungry tyranny and creation of a needless war that many units and pilots will actually defect just to get away from her; causing her to utterly lose the war she stupidly caused. She was eventually driven out of office and a much more sane sibling came to seize power from her and try to undo all the foolish damage she had done to the House. She basically torpedo's it for a good decade or so before she's finally removed. But this is all the future. Until 3055, we have Melissa, which is the good Steiner Archon. The PoS Katherine won't be ruining things anytime soon.

I'm with the Skye Provincial Militia, and I'm not ashamed to say I sometimes pilot my Raven 3L.

Purely because when I see a Capellan on the other side, I gun for him just to kill him with a mech his country made.
