So, I'm a new guy and I'm trying to decide which House to sign on with. Someone already started a thread in this vein for Kurita, the Davies and the Capellans (who I already know a reasonable amount about), but I don't know enough about the struggling underdogs of the Inner Sphere (I mean that as a compliment)! I know the basic history of the FRR, how you've always struggled under the booted claw of the dragon, only to start getting squashed by those over-confident Lyrans as well - but you never stopped fighting! You rebelled against your shackles and after many years (nay, centuries!), you earned your hard-won freedom! I know you have a very proud military as well, the Rasalhague KungsArme, which must certainly be a respectable one, forged in the struggles against not one but two nations vying to control you!

And yet, where does that leave you? For all I know now you're just a small middleman mediating a tenuous economic peace on two fronts, trying to please your former masters so they don't start greedily eyeing your nation again! I'm not entirely sure if that's sold me, so it's up to you guys to do the convincing!

So, sell me! Tell me about your 'Mechs (which I believe are mostly Lyran and Draconis in origin?), your customs, your people, your military, your politics, what you value, what you dislike (outside of Lyrans and cybernetics), your greatest achievements, your deepest shames (optional), your favoured weapons and battle tactics (and those you may dislike) - make me want to serve the Free Rasalhague Republic!

Also, let me say you guys easily have the most badass insignia in the Inner Sphere, particularly out of the joinable factions in MW: O.

(And please leave the Clan Invasion out of this, I know about the Ghost Bears merging with you guys into a super-happy meganation but that doesn't happen until the 32nd century, so we're just going to ignore that. That and I don't want a huge "FRR gets owned jump ship" debate.)

Well. We have a true republic for one! Few nations in the Inner Sphere can boast the same. Second, we are space vikings! Well space Swedes anyways. What more could you want!?! We have a strong dislike of mercenaries (Skjaldborg excepted) due to some bad interactions with them during the Ronin Wars. The Kungsarmé has essentially 4 types of regiment, the Kavalleri, which are light regiments, the Hussars and Freemen, which are mostly Medium weight, and the Drakons, which are the heavies. The FRR only ever boasted one fully assault weight regiment, the Gunzburg Eagles, but they will be destroyed in the Clan Wars. My unit (non-canon) is a house unit, the 1st Rasalhague Dragonregimentë, we are a cavalry battalion who uses fast heavy and medium mechs in sweeping and flanking formations to hit enemies hard, or drive them against the anvil of our assault weight lancemates. Any more questions, let me know!

You sound like a good candidate for the 1st Rasalhague Dragonregimentë. We are a smaller group of mostly people with real lives (jobs, kids, etc.) and we have pretty lax expectations and lots of fun! If you are interested, put in an application at 1strdr.enjin.com.

Yeah, the true republic thing has always been a plus in my eyes for the FRR - and especially the Scandinavian/Nordic roots, too (I'm a huge fan of Sweden, Norway etc.). Disappointed about the lack of assaults, but then my current 'Mech of choice is a custom Dragon-1N variant, and to my knowledge the FRR is rather renowned for using an unorthodox blend of Lyran and Draconis 'Mechs (having been formerly subjugated by both in the past), so it'd probably fit right in. Cheers! I'll keep checking back here to see what others have to say.

Glad to see my inquiry incited some discussion. On the subject, can you claim any mechs as individually "
RASALHAGUEAN

as possible?
I know Davion claimed the Marauder, Kurita claimed the Dragon, and Liao claimed the Cataphract
Also, what are your relations to other houses? (aside from being oppressed by all of them)

Yeah, it was your threads that spurred me to start this, Visyac =P I saw you'd done Liao, Davion and Kurita but couldn't find Marik, Steiner or the FRR, so I decided to start them myself.

From my understanding, the Republic doesn't really claim any 'Mechs of its own due to being forced into the Combine for so long. After finally wresting themselves from House Kurita's control (and the Lyran Commonwealth's interference), the Republic needed to focus more on getting on its feet fast. With the advent of the Ronin Wars, the received assistance from both the Commonwealth AND the Combine, which means the KungsArme is heavily populated with byth Lyran and Draconis 'Mechs. It's probably the only nation in the Inner Sphere where you'd find Dragons and Zeuses working in tandem, or Panthers and Commandos patrolling together.

In regards to relations, the Republic is maintaining a tenuous neutrality policy with both the Commonwealth and the Combine. Neither of the Successor States hold any direct ill-will toward the Republic - rather, the Republic has to be very careful not to favour one nation in fear of angering the other, so they're treading a fine line. I don't believe they have much in the way of any positive or negative relationship with the Capellans or the Free Worlds League, given that neither have had a great deal of interaction with the Republic. As for the Federated Suns, being part of the Federated Commonwealth I assume they're on cordial terms with the Republic by way of the Lyrans.

I was lucky enough to stumble across a veritable wealth of information in another thread found here http://mwomercs.com/...hague-republic/ - the poster in question is Carl Wrede, and posted effectively EVERYTHING you could want to know about the Republic, from the history to the politics to foreign relations to their military, it was an incredibly (if slightly lengthy) read. Because of that post I'm kinda sold on the Republic now, even with the advent of the Clan Invasion, because it's so far been the only one telling me everything I wanted to know.

I'd add one little bit of information that somehow wasn't mentioned already.

FRR hates mercenaries. It is still not Kuritan treatment of shoot on sight, but being employed by them is not a great thing to do.

Here's some site I've found to be pretty helpful regarding the subject of each nation and it is especially helpful when talking about FRR, since no major source books were made for them AFAIK. http://battletech.rp...nt&uid=87&lang=

Curse you, Adridos! Now I'm going to be glued to my computer for the next six hours XD

Thanks for that, I'll be able to form a better opinion of the other factions now - though as shown by my portrait, I've already thrown in with the Republic! Now I just need to find a unit...

I don't think the FRR has ever been in conflict with the CCAF. Opposite sides of the known galaxy and all.

I just started playing Mechwarrior and read up on some of the factions.

FRR stands out the more for me. I'm a sucker for the Norse and the FRR are the closest I can get to Norse...I like to think of them as Space Wolves in mechs.

Haha. I just spend too much time checking the FRR forum. Stupid smart phones and their usefulness in curing boredom.
