Hey I just bought an ECM Atlas and one of the matches I was in some guy said that if you have the Advanced Sensor Range module it boosts the effective area of the ECM, do you guys know if this is true?
I bought the Advanced Sensor Range modules with GXP and then spent 2,000,000 c bills on it and put it in the slot in the load out screen, do I need to activate it when I'm in a match or is it automatic?
Thanks.

Ecm + Advanced Sensor Range?

Who ever told you it boosts ECM range doesn't know what he is talking about. All the Advanced Sensor Range does is boost your sensors so you could detect an enemy further out than without the module. This assumes that the enemy is not currently covered by an ECM disruption field from his team; if he is, it does give you a slightly larger range to target an enemy (from 180 to 250 instead of 180 to 200).

Either the person told you wrong or you misunderstood. When you have advanced sensor module you can detect a mech under the ECM umbrella from further out.
It does not boost the ECM effect in any way.
With the adv. sensor module fully upgraded you can detect ECM mechs to around 250m out.

So if I switch its mode with the button J and put it on counter mode instead of disrupt mode it will detect at 250 instead of 180?

Exclusive effects.
Adv Sensor mode 2/2 will let you target the ECM protected mech at 250m instead of 200m. Basically it increases the range you can target and relay info on an ECM protected mech before you are in the ECM bubble and can no longer relay info.
Being within 180m and switching your ECM to counter will kill the ECM bubble entirely making the enemy sensor visible by your entire team at any range their sensors will allow, presuming there are no other opposing disrupt ECM mechs in the area also.

I thought if you had ECM you could not be targeted by LRM and SRM no matter what range?

Advanced Sensors do affect ECM. They don't affect your ECM if you have the module.
ASM boosts the distance from an ECM-carrying mech at which you can detect and target it (something like a 50m increase). Normally you can detect somebody with ECM between 200m and 180m (IIRC). ASM lets you expand that to 250m.

That is not really true. They don't affect ECM, they allow you a slightly larger distance range to target an enemy that is covered by ECM. The sensors themselves have no direct effect on ECM, friendly or enemy. So the Advanced Sensor affects your ability to target an enemy covered by ECM, but it does nothing to ECM itself.

No, between 180m and 200m (250m with ASM) you can be locked.
Also if tagged you can be locked.
I'm assuming you mean SSRM not SRM
