I'll be trying to keep this as short as possible.

One of the mechanics from Battletech (initially tournament rules, now relegated to expanded rules) was the ability to ignite fires in a map, and the effects it would cause. I would like to see that brought into MWO and the Mechwarrior franchise as a whole.

Like with standard Battletech rules (Give or take some editions):
  • Fire based weapons (Flamers, and if later included, Inferno SRMs) can set buildings, trees, and certain other terrain features alight.
  • Burning objects would generate smoke (Just like with felled 'mechs) and possibly some interesting lighting effects, but would also create a blind against Infrared cameras (Even though IR is planned to be getting reworked)
  • Further, it could be used as area denial. Passing through burning woods would increase heat significantly, while refusing to budge in a burning copse of trees would cause significant heat buildup.
  • If used against destructible map elements (if they become included in the future), it could deal damage over a course of time, meaning that while they wouldn't break immediately, they could become increasingly weak over time, eventually breaking when they run out of strength.
  • Players ignited with Inferno SRMs could have the option to run into deep water in order to wash off the incendiary gel before it's active effect wears off.
