This tournament has got me wondering. How exactly is a Kill Assist calculated?
I've had missions where I barely graze a light as he scouted our team and receive a Kill Assist 5 minutes later when he dies. The opposite has happened (though with less frequency) when I've slugged it out with some mechs and hit'em with at least 50-100 damage points, only to have them die and I get no points.

Not sure how that happened. Should be any damage to get assist.
But I learned that a savior kill replaces a kill assist. Though that doesn't matter outside a "assist tournament" which I hope we never have again.
EDIT: Oh wait.. I just realized it's called a "savior kill" and I had that pop up when I didn't kill anyone... wierd. Now im really confused lol bug?

I've noticed that the spam for assists doesn't always pop up, but has no bearing that I've been able to find on whether you're actually awarded the Cb/XP.

the Savior assist is killing a mech that has a team mate under 25%.

If you kill the mech you do not get an assist (although you get a kill).
It may be possible that if the mech dies to friendly fire, or suicde (heat, out of bounds, disconnect) you may not get the asisst.
My understanding is that if you do damage, no matter how insignificant, and the mech is later destroyed by someone/something else you get an assist.

Yea, Im being slow today with almost no sleep. I fixed it with the edit. I had it pop up pretty late without shooting a mech. I doubt it was a ammo explosion trigger since it should of killed him sooner but ill just say it is since I never heard of a bug about that

Heres a tip.
If you want to do well on the assist portion of this weekends event, do what the majority of the people in the top 15 did.
Use a light mech, run straight to the enemy, attempt to hit them all without dying, then run off and play super passive the entire match. If you die, D/C and repeat with another light.
I could swear some of them were just bum rushing and then D/Cing after death. I saw this time, and time, and time again.
But I thought you had to be Alive, when the mech you damaged died, in order to get an assist. If this isn't the case...
Should you just run in, shoot everything, die, d/c, rinse repeat? Do you have to be alive to get an assist?

To clarify:
the Savior assist is killing a mech that has a team mate under 25%.
As per Patch Notes http://mwomercs.com/game/patch-notes:
Savior Kills: Upon killing an enemy Mech. If that enemy had been attacking a teammate who has a critical component that is 50% health or lower within the last 10 seconds you will be awarded 7500CBills, and 150XP.
