My children understand this is just a game, not real, not life unlike some people who take this game way to seriously and feel threatened by an option. An option that as Aegis stated - "The only reason I can see (correct me if I'm wrong) why people feel that chat disabling should NOT be in the game is because they want the ability to force their communication onto someone else. Yeah, it can be for both mature, and childish reasons, but as the saying goes, "My right to throw a punch ends where your nose begins". end"
I like the game, I like my team, and I like a lot of the people in the community. It's not "pandering" to my children you seem to be worried about, you seem to view this as an attack on your freedoms and it's not, it's about my freedom and the freedom of others to enjoy a game without the bad chatter that happens in game. It likely won't affect you in any way but you freak out about having the option.
It's not about a chat toggle. It's about parents and politicians telling the game industry to make changes to products. It's to the point that nobody feels obligated to raise their kids anymore, and would rather force the game industry to remove content that they don't agree with than manage what their kids play. This isn't done with the movie industry, or the television industry, or the book industry, or the music industry. Only the game industry is bullied into making changes, many absurd, because it's considered unsuitable for children.
Sorry, but games are not created for children. They are created for the age group listed by the ESRB. If you do not like the content in the game, do not allow your children to play it. It's that simple. There are many other hobbies they can enjoy.
If your children cannot handle vulgarities included in team chat, then I question their maturity to handle a scenario where you are using a war machine to kill another pilot. There are no illusions to the act killing in this game, as has already been pointed out. Sorry, but you will have a hard time trying to convince the world that your kids can play a game that focuses on near endless war and mass murder, directly involving the child in engaging and killing enemy pilots, but they cannot interact with other humans through the chat functions.
It is not PGI's job to police this game or to protect your children. That is
your job. Once again, if the content your children are exposed to in this game is objectionable, then they should not play the game.
Period.
