This is battle tech and such an ancient symbol would be long lost by the year 3050! I would rather have a house symbols be paint able on mechs.

You mean like the Imperial Japanese flag.............

You mean like the Japanese War Flag that is the Yen-Lo-Wang paint scheme ? ;)

(Funny that the Mech of a Davion double Agent in the China-inspired Liao Military features an ancient Japanese flag, isn't it ? )

Yea but no one looks at what the Japanese did to the Asian countries under their boothill so that doesn't matter. Even though they had a list of war criminals that rivaled the ****. As far as the Confederate flag goes I'm saying no, the whole idea is just screaming for ACLU attention in this politically correct society we have become. Still okay to run around with the name something something ***** though right?

Speaking of outrageous paint jobs, I did my A1 up in a rather nice pink zebra motif but it seems other players don't appreciate it much and I usually get focused first when I drive it.

Being a native (born and lived here for 28 years) southerner I've never seen the flag used to express racism with my own eyes. I personally don't understand why people fly it, but I don't think they mean anything negative by it (most of the time). It seems kind of dumb to me but some people see it as southern pride, or what have you.

I don't think it would be a popular camo however.

And it isn't the same thing as the **** flag. Not at all.

Too many negative connotations to that flag (and I'm a native of Georgia.)

The funny thing is the Stars and Bars isnt even the Confeds actual flag, its the battle standard of the rebs.

They kill you because they see the A1 part of your mechs name.

Also this whole subject (not the A1) makes me ill.

I guess there is a large missconception and ppl usually relate things.

Confederate flag = slaverism = rednecks(wich are often preconceived as racist and stupid)

We have similar issues in spain, until this late years and due the sucess in several sports wear or even use the spanish flag was oftenly considered a show of fascism due our past after the civil war.

Wow, the ignorance abounds!

Copyright issues? On a Naval battle standard that's almost 155 years old?

The stars and bars wasn't even the CSA flag. It was a CSA naval battle standard.

I live in the south, and I see more African-Americans and Hispanics flying "Old Dixie" than white kids.

I find it humourous that all these people get offended for someone else.

Possibly because they don't really understand what it symbolizes?

The association with racism is due to the KKK "adopting" the flag as their symbol in the early 1900's, co-opting it for their own evil purposes. The original use was a battle flag as mentioned earlier which is completely appropriate for a battle game.

You ******* ignorant children, the confederate flag is not a symbol of racism. For God sake, there are black veterans that FOUGHT to keep that flag staying high in a city building just a few years ago.

Southern pride? What a terrible conception.

To be fair I've seen it used with racist connotations, but that's only been in the northwest and midwest. Which is dumb.

someone might want to research this, but i actually suspect that I have seen the stars and bars (ie, confederate flag scheme) as a prominent feature of some merc unit's paint schemes and symbolism if such were the case, would the confederate flag not then be canonical?

i will spend a little time looking for it, i suggest if anyone feels passionate about this (doubt it) they will do the same

Scary part: they do, and they preferred the CSA's form of government to what we have now. They're both college professors, one with a PhD in governement and the other a PhD in history.

Oh, and the KKK is not a southern thing anymore. I see more KKK rallies in places like Ohio, Iowa, and Illinois than the Deep South, where the white's hatred of the KKK and the National Socialists is very deep.

Most southern blacks know EXACTLY what it means. It's the whites down here that want it removed, not the blacks. Again, I see more Southern Pride in black individuals than whites.

Whites are too busy going, "Ew... I might be racist" to get involved with Southern Pride.
