As I understand it there was recently a buff to machine gun crit damage. I thought I read there was going to be a general damage buff as well. Can anyone confirm?

Nope, no straight damage buff. It was boosts to its crit chances against components. They did this for flamers and LBX-10s as well.

The MG buff was a step in the right direction, but the MG is still under powered. If they leave the crit damage boost in place and upgrade the MG to do 1.2-1.5 DPS I think it will be in a good spot. But don't hold your breath.

I'd like this too. It's an interesting mechanic to add to the weapon but its raw damage is still pathetic enough to not bother for most all times you could cart them.

People keep saying that, but I keep seeing videos of mechs falling over full of machine-gun bullets. Variety is the spice of life.

If the mech fell over with MG wounds, the killing blow was from a weapon that was NOT an MG. The MG can take out the equipment in a location, but it does pitiful damage to internal structure (damage to that does not get the crit damage bonus) and pitiful damage to armor. The crit damage that an MG does do is easily matched by ANY other weapon in the game,

You can technically kill people with MGs. Realistically it's still tonnage wasted. You could stack another couple tons of real-weapon ammo or upgrade your AC5 to a UAC5; add another heatsink or two, or boost your armour values. MG is just not cost-effective/tonnage for what it does, not yet.

It's marginally better than it had been, but it was 100% useless before so even being 98% useless is an improvement on paper. Dirtside it's still extremely highly situational whether it'll be useful.

1 to 1,5 DPS sounds good and they should also lower ammo count to an equivalent number.

1 tonne of MG ammo right now gives 80 damage and the weapon from the tabletop that gave the same damage per shot was the AC/2.

Give the MG the same damage per tonne (150) but let it take twice the time. Right now it takes 200 seconds to emty 1 tonne of MG ammunition and 37,5 seconds for the AC/2 to do the same.


The only ballistic weapon that takes over 50 seconds to emty it's magazine is the AC/5 with 51 seconds to deliver maximum damage.

The MG should deliver a lot of damage at short range.

Damage: 0,75
Rate of Fire: 0,25
DPS: 3
Heat: 0,25
Magazine: 200
Time to Emty: 50 seconds
Damage to Emty: 150

Now we have a middle ground ballistic weapon that does less DPS than the AC/2.
Unlike the SL which have less DPS we do run out of ammo a mite fast´but gives us the ability to dash in and actually damage something within the short time of an engagement.

Takes 50 seconds to emty the magazine (instead of the insane 200)
Actually DO give some heat which I find reasonable
Same total damage as the AC2 but takes 30% longer to deliver and has less range

I have changed my mind: MGs and Flamers should just be removed from the game entirely, they are never going to be worth using.

4 MG and 1 Flamer is a total waste of a mech. Have you ever actually felt like you contributed to a match? If so, you are delusional.
