*reposted from general discussion*

I'm trying to bring together everyone whose having problems with:

-freezing
-locking up
-crashing
-other terminal problems

There seem to be a variety of problems with the game crashing, locking up, freezing, bombing, etc. After looking through numerous log files (following my own lock ups), as well as people's posting on these forums, there seems to be one commonality:

[Error] Runaway thread

My lockups used to involve video freezing and audio looping. I could not alt-tab to windows or any other app. Ctrl-alt-del to task manager would show that the MWOclient had become unresponsive.

Now, a couple of patches later, the client might still freeze video, but audio no longer loops. I can now alt-tab to windows and I can alt-tab back to the game, but am always greeted by a black screen.

After killing the client, I see usually 3-8 "[Error] Runaway thread" lines.

I didn't see it much yesterday (8 March 2013), but I have seen it much/frequently today.

My claim: it's not me, my system, you, your system, or anyone's connectivity.

I believe it's in the code.

Exactly the same, I've reported to support and have been told its been sent on to the devs (wednesday-ish), looking for an official response/fix. Lughs has also received this problem. I believe its kind of disconcerting that I'm told its a known issue, yet isn't in the known issues subforum, ideas Piranha? -xaxius

Sounds like your GPU or CPU are overheating, or they're not getting enough voltage. I have had this happen to me on two different occasions, and didn't notice that it was a hardware problem until I had exhausted all other explanations.

I would first suggest you check your voltage readings from your system BIOS and make sure they're where they are supposed to be, ie: your 12.5v shouldn't be at 13v.

Seconds, I would check to make sure your GPU isn't running ridiculously hot. Leave your computer idle (not asleep) for about 30 minutes. Come back and touch it. If it burns you, it isn't cooling itself properly. Do the same thing with your CPU, but turn your computer off before touching it - you'll have to remove your fan. When you remove the fan, it would be a good time to check your thermal paste and apply a new coat.

If you're not tech-savvy enough to do all of this yourself, I would find a friend, or take it into a cheap-***, neighborhood PC repair shop to get it checked out.

It's happened to me twice - once with the GPU and once with the CPU. The only symptom I had was crashing and freezing games. All my other applications worked fine, including streaming videos and music, or playing casual web games. Only high-performance games would give me these problems - and not all of them either. Skyrim would be fine, but TF2 would crash, or MWO would be fine and Skyrim would slow down. All kinds of weird behaviors.

This thread should be merged with the pinned crash and stability thread.

Sorry, but I have 20 years' experience with gaming and computers. 3dMark11, Furmark, Kumbustor all run endlessly without producing any errors. Furthermore, temps under Furmark approach 72 while MWO temps are only in the low 50s.

It's not a temp issue for either CPU or GPU.

I have voltages set to manual stock in BIOS.

Thanks,
Paul

Not sure why you need to say how much experience you have at anything, but good luck then.

Definitely not temp or voltage issues. Just for kicks I removed all of the overclocking I was running. Still crashed.

Software.
