Same thing happens with guass.
Can any one confirm exactly how C.A.S.E. works ?
Not how you think it works, but how it works, ive tried it in quite a few of my mechs in my 2000+ games and it seems to fail me quite often. I thought if i got crited by enemy fire that case would expol my ammo and save the boddy part. It does not seem to be the "case" (pun intended) in my experience.

Normally without C.A.S.E damage spreads to other parts of the mech after the part that housed the ammo was destroyed. That's what happens if a LRM packed Assault dies from a destroyed leg, the two tons of ammo exploded and the damage spread through side torso to center torso and core them. This is stopped by C.A.S.E..

When your ammo in the Right torso explodes, if the RT is destroyed, the rest of the damage will then transfer to the Center Torso. C.A.S.E will nullify the damage that would have gone to the CT.
C.A.S.E. will not prevent ammo explosions, and ammo explosions can still cause other explosions within the Cased section of a mech.
EDIT: also too late

It might be useful to Clanners with ammo in their arms ...

I wasted my Cadet bonus on a Raven without really knowing what I was doing. Sold it last night to tell you the truth to put the c-bills to better use on a Mech that suits my play style, but the CASE did save my butt a couple of times when I was using it.

"What's that, my medlas rolled a 2 crit hit on your AC/2 ammo? Okay. Chain reactors one hit kills you. Cheers!"

CASE is standard equipment on clan mechs, no need to mount it.
"Inner Sphere CASE weighs half-a-ton per piece, while Clan CASE does not require any additional tonnage. Both the Inner Sphere and Clan CASE cost 50,000 C-Bills. CASE mounted on an Inner Sphere 'Mech can only be placed in a torso section, and only protects that torso section. Any other ground, sea, or air vehicle mounting CASE only requires one, which protects the entire vehicle."

wait for shaped charge SRM warheads. One damage external, one damage internal even on fully armored body parts.
Or Hatchets which do crits when they hit

CASE prevents damage from transferring. It does not prevent damage. If you have ammo in your leg that blows, it will damage the leg. If the leg is destroyed and there is damage remaining, it will transfer to the side torso. If the transferred damage is sufficient to destroy the side torso with extra remaining, then CASE prevents that extra damage from moving to the center torso. If you don't have CASE, you can potentially lose your core by getting your leg ammo blown up.
CASE would reduce the repair costs of an XL if you had one that got blown by an ammo explosion taking out a side torso, but since repair and rearm were removed that is no longer a consideration. Don't bother with CASE if you have an XL. It can be invaluable if you have a standard engine, though.

PGI nerfed CASE when they removed repair and rearm. Never thought it was OP. I guess it was. Maybe now its more balanced since it only helps when you use standard engines.
