Any ideas? I got nothing that's really unique. I was toying around with some a build (2LL, 1 ERLL, 1 SRM6, Tag [I like supporting and the tag bonus], and probably a machine gun. Don't know how well it'll work; I'm not sure 3 LLs are better than 2 PPCs, but I'm gonna experiment with it and any other ideas here.

First off, you should use a XL Engine. You need the tonnage and the sides almost never get shot. The center hitbox is so big -.-' usually you get blown in the center anyway.

Then you should upgrade to Endo-Steel and DHS, to free some more tonnage.

Some good build are:

- XL 300 Engine
- DHS

- 1x UAC5
- 4x MPL / ML
- 1x SRM6

And:

- XL 300
- DHS, Endo Steel

- 1x Gaus
- 4x ML
- 1x SRM6

Try to put the ammo in the legs (they almost never get shot) and the head (is used first and the head is VERRY hard to hit). Also put a AMS + 1x Ammo in there is you have the tonnage. Its helps a lot when you are close to your team, wich you should anyway.

There are also a couple off guides around here, just search "dragon" :)

Its not a 1c, but I love the build, it has a decent speed (not the fastest) and the alpha strike will help open up heavy mech's backs. The build also runs pretty cool as well (1.34), so you can throw 2-3 alphas in the back of an atlas, run like hell, or stay for another round if you think you can get the kill.

my bad, the build is a 1N, 320xl, DH's, Endo, 1x LB10x, 1xLL, 1xML, 1x AMS 2x 4srms and 1x DH, 2x srms ammo 3x lb10x ammo.

I bought this one yesterday and the "standart" loadout you'll see on these forums is probably the best;

300XL
4x ML
Gauss
SRM6
AMS

You play a bit conservative and do not take a fight directly with Cataphracts and Assaults. Soften with SRM6 and ML's and use Gauss as a "finisher". Make sure you aim it carefully as you don't have much ammo for missed or mis-aimed shots.

k, thanks. I don't know why I didn't think about the Gauss/ML build sooner considering how many players I know who run it >_<

1C is one of my favorite chassis. I was running pretty much that exact loadout except with another ML instead of tag and with a 360 XL engine for a very long time. Its simply beautiful and totally owns. Fast with quite a lot of firepower and armor. Cored so many atlas from the rear :)

I recently started a new build thats a bit strange but I am having a blast with it. Its a fast snipe build and is fun if you are good with ballistics.

XL325
13 DHS

2xPPC
1x UAC5 (2 tons ammo)

In love with this right now.

Also was running a variant with 3x ppcs which was good too, just a little slower

Thanks for the build ideas. :)
I'm currently running a non standard build. It allows me to compete in any range, somewhat a jack-of-all-trades.

I have a question?

What would you say is the best role for a Dragon 1C? I find that my team seems to do well when I play more of a protective support role, especially for vip. For instance, if our D-DC is getting focused on, I will typically rush in to intercept, hitting the flanks and hopefully drawing fire to myself. This is rewarding and really helps the team win, however it doesn't equate to many kills nor glory. You become an unsung hero.

Is the Dragon a build you want to emphasize speed in, or firepower?

My 2cents. It shares the highest laser hardpoint count of Dragons (4x) with a spot for only 1 ballistic, usually the heaviest weapons. It seems to lean towards an energy build with a supporting ballistic. That being said, I would imagine speed would be your goal.

I just went back to a modified Guass build on my Flame and had one of the best matches ever. 890 damage, 3 kills, 3 assists. The other 10 matches I played with it went very well also.

Here it is adapted to the 1C variant: DRG-1C Guass, 1 LL, 3 ML, XL325

I find that 2t ammo isn't enough for my Guass, so substituted a LL and 1t more guass ammo for the usual SRM. Reason being I'd rather have 15 pinpoint damage than spread, and the LL adds a nice punch to those long-range Gauss snipes (and also works well up close). If you prefer speed, drop a ML; an XL350 will fit in there and still run pretty cool.

As far as your role on the battlefield, I tend to play a bit standoffish at first, taking some pot shots with the Guass and LL until things get interesting. Then I play a harrasser and heavy support guy, trying to keep the LRMs, snipers, and lights from having a heyday with the Assaults. This build work great for all roles, just stay on the move. Don't get temped to stop and line up a guass shot, try to fire on the fly. The extra ammo means you don't have to be stingy.

Exactly. Got it in 1. I am fairly new to Dragons myself, but the wisdom on the forums is that is how you ride the Dragon in Combat. See the post about how Ruax saved the day in a Dragon like that

Any other ideas? Also, extending the topic to Dragon builds in general, but preferably builds that only one variant can do.

I really wish they'd organize this forum with Mech and Variant sub forums (no offense meant to OP. Just saying the forums could use some organization).

Currently my build with my 1C. I used to run a 1 ac10, 4 MLs, 16DHS, decided to play around with the 1C and surprisingly this gives me a much better performance. Fast weapon recharge and if your UAC doesn't jam early you can deal a lot of damage quickly. Speed is what shines on the Dragon, use it at your advantage, and flank enemies, hit them around hard and make move again. And a decent amount of armor in the CT so you can take a beating and still come out standing.

After borrowing a bit from your recommendations I've come up with this beast: DRG-1C. It's strength comes from versatility. If you prefer more umph in close range, you can swap out the LRM10 for SRM6 and the 2mlasers for 2mplasers. Hope someone gives it a test run. :D

I threw this together on the spot. I guess it's a support sniper. The ERPPC is mounted high on the torso so you can don't have to expose much of your body to use it. The Gauss provides further long range punch. The medium lasers are to fill extra space.

Been really enjoying this build, DRG-1C. It doesn't get a lot of kills nor put you at the top of the scoreboard, but man, is it rewarding being there for your team. I feel like a super hero on the battlefield: zooming in to save an Atlas in distress.

I was thinking of buying my first Heavy mech, and I was looking at the 1C. This is what I came up with...

DRG-1C

I ignored the Ballistic slot, since they are so heavy.... but managed to fit in 2 ERPPCs with 2 MLAS as close range backup.
Oh, and with 20 DHS. I'm hoping that is enough to cover repeated shots from both ERPPCs.

Anyone tried something similar? How does it look?

I imagine it would do fine. Potential problems and/or things to look out for:
  • remember to use your RA as a shield, that means you will quickly be down a DHS
  • your ability to fight is solely dependent on your LT+LA
  • lose your LA and your ability in CQC will greatly be diminished; also the loss of 2 more DHS.
  • avoidance of LRM will solely depend on your positioning through speed
At the cost of a few DHS, you can equip a larger engine for more speed and the ability to pack more of the DHS in the engine. This results in less of a vulnerability to heat spikes from critical damage. :http://mwo.smurfy-ne...479aa405164da8f
