An AC-10 using combined weapon group medium and large pulse lasers with twin SRM4 for dessert.

I was hollowing out center torsos left and right on my first match.

Its weird you would post this now, because I literally just tried a build very similar to this yesterday for the first time.

AS7-RS

Most notable difference is the xl engine. I was using an ac10 for a while but found the ultra ac5 to be better for the build in general.

I love the triple large pulse laser. Just wrecks stuff.

Hum, I have some suggestions.

Drop BAP. You said you wanted a brawler, you have no long range weapons worth devoting tonnage to it. No Guass, no LRMs, no PPCs. Why do you need the extra range at that point?

Move the AC and SRM ammo out of the chest and into the legs. If that ammo goes up, your chest is screwed. In the legs it will almost never be a problem. There is literally no reason to keep it in the chest (especially without CASE) when the legs are free.

Consider another weapon than the AC10. It's a little too heavy for not enough damage. But your call.

Brawlers benefit from speed. Try to fit in a faster engine.

You could use more ammo.

Personally, I feel like you need more tonnage than AMS on this thing. I would consider dropping it and just getting used to hugging rocks.

Here is, IMO, an improved build in the spirit of yours.

I've increased the engine speed, boosted the SRMs up to SRM6s, added ammo, and adjusted ammo placement. This is still not an Atlas I would probably run, but it's basically a tightened up version of what you seem to enjoy.

Don't run XLs in an Atlas. Just don't! It makes you so much squishier and easier to take out. Even with prodigious torso twist, you just give up too much.

Here is a possible variant.

You give up some speed and 2 DHS, but you gain an SRM ammo pack and DON'T BLOW UP WHEN SNEEZED ON.

IMO, that is an improvement.

I actually really like that build. Will try.

I almost never run atlas because I hate them. They are too damn slow to be effective IMO.

Try this:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b2b947265ae00d3

bigger engine = more speed, better torso twist, easiest to duck to cover = speed is life :)

2xLRM10 = pretty good dmg till u come in range for ur AC20 and mediums and if someone trying LRM on u u can atleast return fire and make him go back so he wont spam on U

AC20 = all time best weapon in game ;) i preffer it since at 400m its like gauss but have more HP and u can just so easy kill lights with it ( if u skiled with aim)

4xml its still a good dmg of 20 so if u attack other slow mechs its pretty nice 40dmg with ur AC20, after last patch u can hit those lights pretty well and finish them with AC20.

P.S.

if u dont like lrm10 idea just change to srm6 and add ammo/heatsink

Here's how I'd do it:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...90231cb524e1a0f

There's a reason that big engines, big ballistics, and as many SRMs as you can jam in are a staple on brawler Atlai ;)

I dropped the large pulse lasers for medium lasers (since IMHO the limiting factor on lasers is damage-per-heat, not damage-per-second) and added in more heatsinks. Should run a little cooler. The one thing I'm not happy about is ammo in the RT, but I couldn't figure out what to do with those pairs of empty crit slots in the RT and CT - maybe someone who runs Atlai without Endo Steel would be able to help you on this? If you want a safer, hotter version, you can always take a DHS out of the right arm and put ammo in there.

I run my RS with AC/20, 4 LL (http://mwo.smurfy-ne...ed49f68192825f8). Sometimes I switch out a LL and 2 DHS for an ERPPC for range and EMC disruption.

And here is build that i enjoy myself:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...2906d29150eddf0

First of all this build has a good cooling efficiency so you won't shut down much often. Second Gauss rifle provides some sniper-range damage. Well i think it's worth giving it a try.

A common build is the 4x Large Lasers
1 Gauss Rifle........... That's my favourite.

I am definitely interested in this thread. I just got an R5 on my way to getting Atlas Elite. And am struggling with it.

See, one thing I suck at is Ballistics, so a Gauss or other Long Range ballistics build is right out. I am good at Lasers, like them even. But Heat is -killing- me at the moment, especially since I can't afford any DHS quite yet on it. Especially on a 4 LL build.

Naturally, my full point is XP building to get towards Elites, but I am likely to keep the mech regardless. And need to get 1 more Atlas to finish the XP grind. And if I find a fun build it might be a more 'main' for me. So that in mind, I'm also sort of on a budget with it, trying to avoid getting new Engines for it since those are pricey, and even wavering on DHS's since those are pricey. Though those are definitely not out, worth an extra day or two if it keeps it from feeling like a grind and makes it a fun mech to play.

I tweaked the original loadout as it ran fairly hot in practice. Currently all the missiles are gone and an LBX10 replaces the AC-10. I really don't like the RS that much but my MWO stats say it is the mech I have gotten the most direct kills with. I have no idea if most of these are from the SRM variant or the LBX variant.

Just for something different, this one lacks ballistics in favour of good old 4xLL, 2xSRM6, plenty of armour, decent range and good heat management which should work on large and hot maps too.

AS7-RS

Also, all of the other builds previously mentioned look really good and it is encouraging to see so much creativity in 1 variant.

One of my favorite RS builds is 4x Large Pulse Lasers and some SRM 6's. It's an absolute heat pig, but if you want to spend the $ and rely on coolant flush from time to time, it's so damn fun to pick off limbs at will
