Instead, it's whether doing well in the other Ravens is as easy as in other chassis. The answer is usually no.

I am interested in what build you used in that game, however.

Raven is my favorite IS light mech, and 2nd favorite IS mech period. Bushwacker is my favorite, but it looks like I will have a few years to play Ravens. Out of all of the ravens, I like the 4x the best, and pilot it the most, because it can mount jumpjets and machineguns.

ERPPC, Tag, 2 machine guns, 1 Streak2, 1 ton ammo each for ssrm and mg, almost max FF armor, almost max XL engine, Endo steel, DHS, 5x Jump Jets. 119.6 kph top speed.

0 internal slots remaining. ppc on weapon group 1, everything else linked on group 2.

This is definitely a support role, ppc disrupts ecm, tag speads up streak lock, machineguns chunk gear. Hang around the edge of the herd, jump sniping and running away until I spot a target with internals showing, then I run in and spam laser guided machine gun bullets.

I have been pugging exclusively since detailed stats were turned on, and over the course of 100+ games in my 4x, twin machineguns average a 47.40% accuracy with 15.7 points of damage per match. ERPPC 55.97% and 169 damage per match, streak 73.64%/78 pts per match.

That means I average ~262 damage per match in my 4x, with both a w/l and kdr of around 2.0. Sure my KRD is almost half in my 4x compared to my 3L... but my Win/Loss ratio is double.

And before you ask, yes I would mount ECM in my 4X if I could.

Well you have excellent taste. Raven's my favorite IS light as well, and the Bushwacker has my vote for the 55 tonner, timeline be damned. I've had a lot of matches with the 2X with 4 ML + SRM6 with Artemis and the 4X was my first mech. I'll have to give this build a try as I was never able to find a 4X build that I liked.
  • AC/20 4X. Fun, not very effective.
  • Gauss 4X. Not very effective.
  • 2 LL + 2 MG + 5 JJs. Somewhat fun but not as effective as my 2 LL + 2 ML Cicada build.
  • 2 AC/2. Only effective if you're facing heavier mechs at close range that are simultaneously not paying much attention to you. Also cripplingly slow.
  • 2 ML, SSRM, AC/5, +3 JJs. My first build and not particularly good at any combat role.
  • 2MPL, LBX 10. The LBX 10 is not a weapon worth sacrificing for.
I think the ol' 4X still needs a buff. At the very least, I'd consider increasing its engine cap. Where do you stand on the MG damage debate?

IMHO there is no "obsolete mech"... simply obsolete TACTICS. Listen, if you run the same load-out on the same mech and run it against me in the same manner you always have before, I'm soon going to learn how to counter it... either that, or the dev-gods will nerf some part of your mech while buffing some part of mine (seen it happen!). Anyway you want to look at it, the facts remain: weapons (see: mechs) may change, but it's the TACTICS that have to change to be truly unique on the battlefield, else you get left behind. That's what ComStar did (will do?) at the Battle of Tukayyid.

I love my spiders and maintain a good K/D in them but I know if I was in my 4SP I'd be doing so much more.

Hunchbacks can output massive damage, far from obsolete.

Spider.

With the current generic game modes that require nothing more than kill or cap, the spider is out of place and out-gunned.

I don't think any Mech is obsolete. I honestly prefer the Spider over most of the other lights, though I do enjoy a romp in my Commandos from time to time. What I would agree to is that there are variants of each mech that are obsolete to my preferred style of play.

I don't get the selections folks are making. Obsolescence implies that something was at one time good, but is no longer the optimal choice. Mechs that were great, and still are to some extent serviceable, are the Jenner F and the Awesome. The Jenner was the primo scout until the combo of streaks and ECM, and the Awesome was a good alternative to the Atlas until the Stalker.

Mechs like the Commando and the Spider (as fun as the latter mech is) didn't have their time and become phased out, they were DOA from a combat competative standpoint from the very moment of their release.

Today i witnessed such a great spider pilot he was holding the cap at enemy base dodging jumpjeting and fighting until his last weapon gave in...4 guys were after him...he only has left ecm and a tag.... it was like 3 epics minutes..then the 4 remaining of us came just when this glorious pilot embraced death. He just won us the match.

So spider...not that useless you just need the skills

Saying that someone was good in a bad chassis doesn't make a bad chassis good. I'm sure if he was in an optimal chassis he'd be even better.

I'm not knocking the Spider mind you...it's a to of fun. Lets not fool ourselves by claining it's in any way optimal however.

I love the hate for the spider. Decided to unlock master and was worried, but no. 2 med pulse laz, killing machine. The K? can mount 2 ac2, if I could fit a 4th ton of ammo I would , maybe in the future. Also quite potent . I just send lead downrange and profit. If im especially dumb Ill get caught in the open by some light with ...... wait for it..............streaks... wat a surprise@!!!!, but even If i find myself out of position a little and get caught in an engagement with a streak light the dakka is strong and Ive driven mechs off.
I could be so much better, yet I still contribute and survive more often than not, pugstyle , and enjoy the spider.. I dk why more people dont..

Ravens and Catapults are the most obsolete mechs imo.

Do you know what obsolete means? Aren't you confusing it with Over Power? (which the Ravens and Catapults are)

I don't feel that any chassis is obsolete. I think that some variants are. I think that as time goes and we see the 12 v 12 come out that there will be room for all chassis in the game. Also I feel that player ability has a lot to do with how some feel the same way as the OP, but to say any chassis is Obsolete is wrong, again variants yes.

Once more weapons system come online and we gain the ability to do more with our mechs those variants that have turned to crap may find new life and once again be viable. Imagine how some variants will be made new again when the Light Gauss comes out, or when Rac2's and Rac5's come online (If done properly).

Buffing MGs to a DPS of 0.6 would help.

there should be an option for any mech that does not have ecm and|or moves slower than 90kph and|or does not have 4 or more missile hardpoints and the ability to carry 5+ ton's of ammo.

Sadly I do believe (when comparing it to the Spider and how weak that is) the flea when introduced will be the weakest/most obsolete mech. Most med+ mechs are still semi-viable but anything other than the 3L for lights is practically useless.

I enjoy taking my hunch (4P) out every now and then but it doesn't have the speed nor armor to be survivable anymore.

I would have to disagree that all light 'mechs are useless compared to the RVN-3L. I pilot a JR7-D and I perform much better with it than I do with my 3L.
