Greetings fellow BETA Testers!

What do you think about an AUTOCANNON 1?

DAMAGE 1
HEAT 1
COOLDOWN 0.34
RANGE 90
MAX RANGE 270
SLOTS 1
TONS 2.5
SPEED 2000
AMMO 150
DPS 2.94
HPS 3.94
IMPULSE 0.001
HEALTH 10

Seems like a viable weapon for multiple ballistic HPs, like Hunchback, Spider, Cicada... to me.

I know, I know, its not canon, but for the same of balance and chassis viability. I think its would be great.

The number are not made out of stone though.

Greetings Wolves

Yeah, why not? The AC/2 is pretty heavy (for lights) and the MG is not big on damage. Nothing really to fill in that gap.

I dont want to hijack your thread, but I posted a suggestion just awhile ago to try and fix the issue involving medium and light mechs with ballistic problems:

Either this or change the tonnage on some weapons. The AC/2 just seems too heavy for its worth.

I understand the idea but to add new non-existent weapons instead of reparing a broken one is not exactly the right way to do it.

And there are a lot of light weapons arriving between 3060-3068 (light AC/2 for example).

I'm hoping that PGI has simply forgotten/overlooked the MG's and will fix it together with the flamer.

I think the MG should actually do damage instead of having to make up weapons to fullfill the role of a light ballistic.

Don't care for the range.

But it would be nice to see a light ballistic that could be used effectively as a backup weapon.

I suggested a while back they lower the weight of the AC/2 to 3 tons, which might make it viable, but alas, they are too worried about messing up terrible stock builds.

Hope for them balancing weapons has faded from me for some time.

They could also just make the machine gun into the weapon that it was supposed to be ;)

Isn't an AC/1 a contradiction of terms? One projectile not really being burst fire?

An Autocannon is a type of rapid-firing, auto-loading direct-fire ballistic weapon, firing HEAP (High-Explosive Armor-Piercing) or kinetic rounds at targets in bursts. It is, basically, a giant "machine gun" that fires predominantly cased explosive shells though models firing saboted high velocity kinetic energy penetrators or caseless ordnance do exist. Among the earliest tank/BattleMech scale weaponry produced, autocannons produce far less heat than energy weapons, but are considerably bulkier and are dependent upon limited stores of ammunition.
Autocannons range in caliber from 30mm up to 203mm and are loosely grouped according to their damage vs armor.[1] The exact same caliber of shell fired in a 100 shot burst to do 20 damage will have a shorter effective range than when fired in a 10 shot burst to do 2 damage due to recoil and other factors. Autocannon are grouped into the following loose damage classes:

There is no AC1 in the TT. And before you start in on any TT complaints, this game wouldn't exist but for TT. Also, I think the MG does a good enough job in this department.

just cause it wasnt in TT doesnt mean it cant be in MWO, it would give mechs a light autocanon that can be used as backup when you run into heat problems.

Or they could just make the MG the 'mini autocannon' that its supposed to be.

Light Autocannon's already exist in BT

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/LAC/2 (4 tons, 1 Crit)

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/LAC/5 (5 tons, 2 crits)

They just weigh less and have a little less range than their larger ton cousin guns.

Rather than invent a weapon, I'd rather see the MG fixed to do damage.

PGI won't wait 18 real years to add something. Trust me. There is further money potential for them if they add stuff by every era. So not this year, but maybe in 2-3 years if this game gets off the ground.

People just need to keep telling PGI to go back to the drawing board for the MG, to be the 0.5 ton 1 to 2 DPS gun its supposed to be, then we can get on with our lives.
