COMMANDO 2D Build:
ECM
3x Streak 2
1 Medium Laser
XL 200

RAVEN 3L Build:
ECM
3 Medium Laser
2X Streak 2
XL295

Who would win in a 1 v 1 situation and why?

Raven.

Tried and proven, the arms on the raven intercept missiles far more often than the arms on the commando, so even though the commando is firing an extra "*** hat no talent cheese I win button cursed ******** worm ridden filth" missile, the raven would soak more damage.

The "Buck Fudder tracking easy mode worst decision in MWO history" missiles of the raven always seem to track directly into the LT or RT of the commando even when fired directly facing.

I think both mechs are cheese because they rely on streaks and ECM. I would think the Commando would win just because it takes more skill than raven...

The tonnage and armour and schizophrenic hitboxes of the Raven give it the edge, provided the pilot isn't a total screw up.

The raven wins that by default, even before state rewind. Now WITH state rewind you're gonna get pummeled by lasers even from an average pilot.

Also, LOL at the 2D taking more skill. The 2D almost doesn't require any skill and is quite possibly the only mech I could drive one-handed and still perform well enough that you wouldn't guess I was playing one handed. (I'd set throttle to full speed and bind left/right turn to my LMB/RMB and I'd hold down mouse 3 to shoot my super skillful missiles)

Raven has 10 tons over the commando, a clear advantage.

Edit: Commando build could be more efficent to boot.

Not even a contest. Raven 3L would win. It has more armor/health, has one less "super-fair-and-not-unbalanced-at-all" Streak SRM 2, but one more medium laser, and goes faster. Raven would punch through the Commando's tissue paper armor faster than the Commando would the Raven's. ECM's would just cancel eachother out. Done.

well since i play jenner and i can handle these little guys with little effort i would say raven

commando is just too underarmored to win this fight... that one additional streak wont help him

One extra streak launcher doesn't make up for two extra medium lasers and a 60% durability advantage. The Commando will be a perpetual second-fiddle mech for as long as 25 tons is treated as being equivalent to 35 tons.

well, this build is not optimal for the 2D, any sane person would go with an XL210 or XL195 to start for example :)

But anyway the raven would win, unless the pilot has no clue what he is doing.
I made that experience more then once :/

depends on the pilot. something is only overpowered if you keep using the same tactics and arent smart enuff to adapt.

the crying about being thrashed in the same manner by the same mech simply proves your own super leet tecnique clearly is flawed.

a mathmatical advantage means little cept on paper

Worst type of player to have in a beta. One who, instead of discussing imbalances says "learn to adapt".

Congrats on being part of the problem instead of part of the solution. :)

There is only two ways to adapt to Streaks -

Run ECM and then have someone else run ECM with you if you plan on being a light.

Play bigger mechs

Neither is conducive to enjoyment of this game.

Streaks are the bane of my light mech existence, nothing zero's out my fun factor faster. There is no "Skill" based counter, there is no element of tactics, there is no precision, how good you are as a pilot only extends you life by seconds, there is simply "you lose."

I would apply to PGI, move there, pack a lunch, show up for work, and then with my handy **** glove and the express notion of physically slapping some sense into them over streaks.

i love everything about this game, except for streaks which I loath with passion normally reserved for child molesters and people who talk in the theater.

The same "skill-based" counter as any other weapon, move move behind cover.

If you always lose every time you come up against streaks then I can assure you, the problem is you.

Where is the rest of your team while you are receiving the tiny damage of these streaks? Did you run off alone or are they just leaving you to die?

commando has 50% more streaks while the 3L only has 30% more armour. the COM was actually favoured in the streak damage race in my experience before state rewind.

now that the 3L's lasers will actually connect, it will tear up a commando pretty fast. the commando's laser will still be irrelevant because of the stupid raven hitboxes.

If your reply isn't the shining exampling of the single most ignorant and asinine answer on all of the MWO forums, well...I have yet to find one that is.

The flight time of a streak missile is 200m a sec. Exactly how much cover do you think you can move behind in that time frame?

Streak Missiles out of a Raven-3L are extremely tightly packed and in the same location which means they hit their target they same location. That's a AC10 shot from the Raven that is impossible to dodge.

I'm sure there is the once in a blue moon when the attacker gets lazy and launches at you while there is a building between the two of you, but if that's the skill you encounter when fighting people perhaps I need to TANK my ELO so I can play with your rabble.

I have some self respect and I sure as **** don't play Mechwarrior to make a cookie cutter mech like everyone else, nor do I take a "No Talent" 1.5 ton "I Win" button and have the gall to consider myself better than someone else.

I enjoy playing different mechs and when it comes to lights that means everything from a commando, spider to a 4X raven. Now which one of those light mechs can repeated take an AC10 shots?

Because it's not like you can outrun them since speed is all capped at 150 kph.

These thoughts might occur to most people and they consider it before opening their mouth to speak.

You Sir are a Troll, Kindly remove yourself from the conversation until you can contribute something meaningful.

So, because you can't dodge every single one (i.e. the initial one may fire and travel too quickly for you to react) it's an issue?

Remind me... how long does a small, medium, or large laser take to fire & travel? What about the pulse lasers? Do you regularly see PPCs flying through the air with enough time to dodge them?

How about ballistics, can you outrun them?

It seems you don't know what the word troll means, FYI it does not mean "someone who disagrees with me".

wellll. considering i have the raven, commando, spider mastered and am equally adapt at killing raven 3L;s in all 3 of them..
but whatever.
and as far as your infinate wisdom there jetsun, the com 3d is an ecm mech and this is a comparison of ecm mechs..
and why yes.. i AM a troll.. however, the things I say also hold water.
cockpits are also universally 18dmg.

people who dont learn to play a mech to its strengths are the "worst type of player"
trying to say that each mech should have equal characteristics so in essence only a cosmetic differance exists between them are what make the game stale.

oh and heres a pro-tip.
for com-d load it with srm's not streaks, a med pulse laser, XL 195, max the armor.
dont circle strafe unless the com is ready to alpha its missles, then simply run Z forms and figure 8's thru un-even terrian.
and finally, theres this really neat button called "full-stop" watched topgun? this is the airbrake manuver and oddly enuff it works?
