When our engineers sat down to design a mech for “green” pilots, we knew it had to be versatile and flexible enough to get a new pilot into and out of any combat environment. For starters, Large Lasers, three of them; an inexperienced pilot just needs to know that a Large Laser will reach out and touch anything you can see, no need to worry about long range or minimum range. While the veteran pilot will appreciate to the ability to pick their range against an opponent thanks to the combination of Large Lasers and one of the most power engines in its class, and did I mention the jump jets?
One of the most frustrating and deadly situations for a new pilot is to attract the attention of an enemy light mech, who will definitely take advantage of an inexperience pilot, except when you have Sure-Lock Streak SRMs. I guarantee you that if he doesn’t flee that his light armor will give long before your 12 tons, and did I mention the Jump Jet? Great for orienting and elevating, two things sure to confound even the most persistent light mech pilot.

The Scalpel ​is built for intelligent hit and run strikes always staying on the move. Able to identify targets quickly, their load out and weak points at range it excels at picking it's target and laying down withering pinpoint fire into an exposed section. With a total of eighteen double heatsinks covering the twin Large and Medium Pulse Lasers, the Scalpel can adequately compensate for the considerable heat generated, able to continuously fire on a target without pause whilst all the while your locked on streaks will be pummelling them into panic.The extra speed of an XL engine also brings vulnerability so it is essential to use the superior torso twisting ability of the chassis to spread damage evenly across the Mech, especially into the box arms which when destroyed will only result in the loss your backup SSRMs and not your primary weaponry.

Doesn't heat up as bad as you'd think. Speed is ok and is good in most maps. This is a fairly plain load out and a 4 er ppc alpha strike is pretty cool.

This is the ultimate LRM boat.

Offensive capability: 1980 LRMs with quick reload and fast locking (Beagle probe), capable of firing either bursts of 30LRMs or a continous stream of missiles for killing light mechs moving fast behind variable cover.
Jump jets allow for advanced positioning and firing from behind cover.

In combination with sensor range modules and advanced target decay modules the offiensive capability can be further improved for situations without cooperating friendly scouts and for tageting ECM covered mechs in the 250-180m range window. (probably not viable for a trial mech though)

Defensive capability:

Agility, jump jets and uncompromised armor allow for escape to friendly forces for cover in case of assault by light ecm mech. Armor is asymetrical towards front, back has less cover to help with light mech fire during retreat. No AMS, use cover and counter fire to defend from LRM attacks.

Recommended tactics:

This is a classic LRM boat with effective range of 180m - 1000m. Requires scouts and distance from enemy for maximum efficiency. Vulnerable to ECM.

Recommended weapon firing configuration: 1 - all LRMs staggered fire (backspace) for stream firing with left mosue button, 2 - all LRMs burst fire wtih right mouse button.

Open missile bay doors (/) when not uder fire for faster reaction missile launches.

Retreat facing the enemy if possible due to asymmetric armor.

A relatively fast, agile and versatile mech. PPC's can be swithced to ERPPC's if needed. The mech does everything from point blank to long range. Jump jets help to aim the torso weapons when in mountainous terrain and help to traverse the map quickly. Teaches fast brawling and medium range harassment but you need to grasp concepts of PPC minimum range and missile bay doors to be really effective in it. I think for these reasons it's a good trial mech to get people to know the strengths and weaknesses of different weapon types and movement. It's not a cheese build in any respect but stresses versatility and mobility.

Based heavily on the Marauder 3-R, this Cataphract build supports more ammo, AMS, XL Engine, jump jets, and additional speed. These are all possible by the endo steel frame and the XL engine.

CPLT-K2
best k2 ever built
pro's: not a hot mech tho it can get hot after a lot of shots, no minimum and on most maps no maximum range. Fast. standard engine for survivability can still fight with one torso eliminated. can out range cheese catapults for the win.
cons's: prone to being stripped tho this doesnt happen often, large cockpit makes head shots too easy but this is true of all catapults.
