What you experience is that you are not as good as you think you are. Keep thinking that you are in the top 5%, go on.

Inflated stats due to pugstomping.

Those opinions are all great and good. But why will anyone not post their stats ALONG with their experience regarding this?

Then we can tell "Oh look, Jack Smith has an 82% win rate and he hasn't played with a bad player in 2 months according to him, and everyone else with a similar win-rate has a similar experience"

But no. We get people complaining about the experience with NO empirical data, or we get a different post saying "post your win-rate", and we get a bunch of win-rates with no insight into how they feel ELO is working.

Frustrating, I tell ya. If you're trying to figure anything out.

No use if you ask me, you could see in various k/d w/l threads that the stats from farmers are insanely high.
If the stats would have been resetted at elo start, then yes, that would be useful.

funny is it not that we are NOT allowed to know our ELO. just like i can not see my own medical records, but everyone on the G%$&%M planet can.

Unrelated to the general topic at hand, but I see you live in the US so you can, in fact, see your own medical records. Just contact your most recent care provider, tell them you want a copy, and they are federally required to give you a copy of your records, though most of them charge a fee.

We don't just give you your records because most people don't know what to do with them and there's often things in there that people would be insulted by that we're required in good conscience to do or so that there's a legal record of it, like if we suspect abuse (to build a case for taking action to protect our patient from others) or mental illness (people get insulted if you think they might be a little loopy, there's a stigma, but that information might be useful to future care providers.)

Source: I am a medical professional.

Carry on.

Ferret, you sound like you haven't been having this issue mentioned by the OP? Mind giving out your win-rate stats?

Sorry, I edited them in as you were posting :)

I should note that my win rate post-Elo is almost exactly .50, which is how Elo is supposed to work.

ELO seems to be working just fine for me and it looks like I am still climbing slowly up the rating.

I'm certainly NOT in the top 5% but I do alright. My win/loss has started tapering off lately and yesterday I had an almost 20 game losing streak that I hate to say it but I attribute to my teammates. Oddly I'm not sure if they were just really selfish premades or atypically wacky pugs but no communication and poor tactical choices abounded. Still, I'm still winning more than I'm losing. Here's my stats:

I'm over 400 matches in and still winning more than losing. Starting to drop with people I'm pretty confident are in the highest Elo brackets as their filler. These games tend to be a painful stomp when I'm on the other side but I don't mind, picking up some good tactics from it. I am absolutely seeing (yesterday anyway) some low skill folks in these same games. Anecdotal though, it's only been 1 day of terrible I've seen and that was yesterday. Maybe some Elo adjustments going on? Don't know. Maybe just luck. Just an odd coincidence that I'm seeing posts on it the same day I'm seeing it in game.

edited to add:
For the love of god I'm not going to upload a screencap just to post an image here. Is there some reason I can't just img one in?

Your problem is assuming you AND your 4 man team are all top 5% in the ELO ratings. The real problem with ELO is many players think they are good when they in fact, are average.

Based on my stats prior to ELO I would assume that I myself am in the top 10%. But I pretty much played 2-4 man drops for 90% of that. Pug stomping if you will. Win rate aprox 75%

After ELO I have played more solo drops than premade just to experience the new ELO system as intended and my win rate for that time frame is aprox 60%. When I did play premades the win rate was still higher though.

Anyway, I dont really play much anymore because the game isnt fun with ECM and splatter buuilds. Waiting around though to see if they fix it.

I think when you hit launch it grabs 4 more people and does not take their Elo rating into account at all. Then it calculates a team average for your total team and uses that to grab 8 people around that rating to make up the enemy team.

I can not prove that, but it is my suspicion.

This is exactly how it works. Devs have even said so, in a round about way in other threads (namely the 12v12 post). If you have 4man premade that averages a 1500, for example, but the opposing team of 8 randoms has an average of 1200. The remaining 4 people in your group will bring your 4 man average of 1500 down to a total average of 1200. That means <drum roll> that those 4 randoms will have an average of 900 ELO. Add to that the fact that they're not on comms and bang, you're in a bad situation in a hurry.

This is Mischief's way of saying that I'm awesome cause I drop with/against him /flex ;)

I have to agree with this. The expectation out of Elo was that it would segregate, to some degree, different skill tiers. And as far as my experiences go, that worked out for a short time. Then something went boom (around the 5th March patch) and now here we are with the lopsidedness, weight and skill mismatches.

Something's wrong with elo.

This I agree with completely, and its not just affecting super high Elo premades.

I was having great matches, until the last patch. Now its beyond pathetic... I generally top the losers board, in matches where 4-6 players generally do NOTHING, or we win in a complete ROFLSTOMP.

They broke something, badly, and now the game sucks worse than before elo was added.

Drop in a non-assault mech and get back to me.

Its when I drop in a medium or heavy that Elo ***** the bed.

Seriously, are you lacking for money? By the matches you played about you should easily have 10m+ cbills earned. You can kit a HBK for like... 5m.

I just bought a new Stalker for my third Stalker to finish the mastery. I'm saving the money for upgrades to my Mech, if you wish me to test out Mechs in your specification, you should provide the resources.

I frankly dont care what you do, although I really cant fathom how you can play the game with only one mech type and not get overwhelmingly bored! There just isn't that much content to start with, I couldn't imagine doing it in the same mech over and over and over.

I simply state that the Elo problems, at least for me, dont seem near as pronounced when I pilot a heavy.

PvP is competitive, it's not for just farming. If you have reached a point where you can't win and are losing because of pugs then your ELO will drop and the problem will be solved. If you want to play on a team with all skilled players there is an 8v8 queue option as well. You can always find more people to play with on the commstar teamspeak. If you only have 4, and don't want your team loaded with noobs to compensate you can split into two groups of 2 and queue at the same time. This is what my friends and I do and it's very fun and results in even teams.

There are many options but the days of winning 80% of the rounds are over.

See, and im cool with that. And up till the last patch, it was that way... I won some, I lost some, they were genuinely interesting fights of a balanced skill level. You rarely if ever saw a huge XP spread at the end of game. The game was easily at its best.

Now, it's not like that anymore... it seems like a few good players, and four or five players sitting around drooling on each other. Now its back to the bad ole days, where you have one or two players on the losing team do 300-1000, and the rest doing 0.

They can quote all that they want to but player perspective begs to differ with it. Then again, I reserve the right to say that you told me so at a later point.
