yeah it's another of these polls cause there could be a growing trend with the ammount of reports about how elo is ruining the game.

is it true or not? let numbers decide!

come on drag yourselves to the voting booth it's one of those threads again... hopefully it will give us an idea about how a community is coping with it now that we've had 2 tourneys and some time for it to settle a bit.

if you vote no and want something done about elo please send your ideas to suggetion forums as well as this thread, it makes things easier for pgi to obey you. :)

here's one to start off with...

Elo's working great for me so far, pretty much straight 1:1 W/L in my last 160 matches with few stomps and many good fights.

I voted yes Elo is fair but there is no question the match maker needs more work on team mech balance, which is independent of Elo.

All you have to do is pretend ELO doesnt exist and its like it never happened. The gameplay and matching is still the same.

Elo is great when I'm going solo.
However when playing in a group there's a couple issues I keep running into:
1) Matchmaking a group forces the tonnage matchmaker to be less strict.
2) As our Elo is bumped up and the tonnage is less strict, I can't play my mediums without being at a severe disadvantage. For that matter in my grouped Elo bracket I hardly ever see medium mechs.

yeah i think if elo has a big issue it's going to be mr perfect in assaults suddenly is thown in with other mr perfects when he moves onto mediums. elo should be attached to each mech you pilot, cause skills and techniques differ from chassis to chassis, i know cause my heavy's and mediums are woefull cause i just suck at them :D other than that elo works for me most my stats are on the 50% line so it looks balanced.

It's attached to each weight class separately, and a group's Elo is averaged and boosted from what I understand.
But it's still annoying to see mediums pretty much extinct in the higher tiers that I get dragged to whenever I try and play my medium in a group.

Elo seems to randomly bounce me between 8-0 then 0-8 then balances out for awhile. I have some good games then get bounced back and forth again.

So far I like the way it was before Elo, it's hard to explain...before Elo it felt like being thrown out on the battefield not knowing what to expect.

With Elo it does not feel like steadily inceasing/decreasing competition but a coin toss.

This is only 93 total games with 8 different mechs so not condemning Elo.

I can almost set my watch to the consistency of an elo quirk in premade group matches; the enemies are always on par with the highest elo group member, allies are always on par with the lowest elo group member. If group members have equal elo, matches are great.

Maybe I'm having a long stretch of bad luck to this regard, but I swear it's happening! :D

When I do talk myself into playing (I only have a catapult and ECM rains on my parade) ELO tends to make my games more enjoyable

Elo is working well. I had a 4SP brawler with me and I was losing games consecutively. Then I noticed everyone on both teams had LRMs. I swapped out my SRM6s+A for LRM15s+A, tossed in TAG and a smaller engine, ripped out some lasers, plugged in an AMS and started winning again.

Since Elo I have rarely seen an 8-0 wipe. Before Elo I saw a lot of 8-0 stomps. Now I see a lot of 8-3s, but the losing teem usually puts out some decent damage. No matchmaking system can completely overcome bad luck/tactics. From my perspective it has improved gameplay pretty significantly. In game voice coms and a lobby should go a long way to balancing things out.

The first two questions on the poll are not really going to tell us anything we do not already know.

For highly skilled players, ELO is complete BS. It handicaps us by putting people on our team who have no idea how to play. These people then run out and die, which quickly turns it into 4v8. This is leading the players who are at least decent to bring the cheesiest, boatiest crap they can 100% of the time, because they need every advantage they can get to offset the bads on their team.

One thing leads to another, and this game just feels like crap now. I cannot see myself spending any more money on it until ELO is removed, or we get lobbies/private matchmaking like we had in MW4, so we can determine our own matchmaking.

In short, lobbies/private matchmaking are the answer; ELO is not, and never was.
