I've noticed when playing my brawling mediums that quite often I'm just about the only brawler on the team. Sniping with gauss rifles and PPCs seems to be much more popular. As a lone brawler it makes it very difficult to decide when to close with the enemy. Do it too soon and you will incur the wrath of the entire enemy team and be taken out in seconds. The only other option is to stand behind cover and hope something comes to you before the match ends.

I guess it's just the plight of the lone wolf pugger. Either adapt your build to be more flexible and able to engage at multiple ranges or stand there all match hiding behind your LRM spewing missile boat ECM atlas. Anyone else experienced this?

Interesting to see. I'll say that. A month or two ago there was nothing but brawlers 24/7.

A little bit. It's always a good 5 minutes before it turns into a brawl, if it ever does. Both teams pace, set up their perimeters and firing lines, etc. Then eventually someone on one team breaks formation and the rest follow which turns it into a brawl.
As a medium, i always stay with me team... regardless if it becomes a waiting match. It's good practice.

I pretty much only run brawler configs on my DDC and find that there's a lot to be said for patience. If your particular match is very long-range, you might very well be stuck to taking potshots, providing ECM coverage, and skirmishing for the first half of the match. But just like how in MMA most fights go to the ground, most fights in MWO end up in a brawling situation. If you've conserved your armor well, you can really swing the second half in your team's favor.

I was just struggling with this in my 4SP this morning. I think it depends on the map. I get some good action in river city and forest colony, but anything wide open like alpine or caldera? yeah, I just hunker down and body guard the snipers or fire support until the enemy push or harassers show up.

Best thing to do is wait around a BIG Mech. Eventually the enemy will need to knock it out to win and you can help prevent that. No need to panic after the first 5 minutes. Just like boxers, the first couple rounds are for 'feeling" each other out. Rushing out for no apparent reason, as you noted, just makes you a bad stat on your Teams end game sheet. ;)

Hush, little baby, don't you cry, Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird.

And if that mockingbird won't sing, Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring.

And if that diamond ring turns brass, Mama's gonna buy you a looking glass.

And if that looking glass gets broke, Mama's gonna buy you a billy goat,

And if that billy goat doesn't pull, Mama's gonna buy you a cart and bull.

And if that cart and bull turn over, Mama's gonna buy you a dog named Rover.

And if that dog named Rover won't bark, Mama's gonna buy you a horse and cart.

And if that horse and cart fall down, you'll still be the sweetest kid in town.

I see a lot of both when I do play MWO but the matches last like 1-4 minutes tops which is most times a stupid lopsided mess. I was on http://www.gameranger.com/ playing MW4 Mercenaries last night played various maps mostly brawling and I timed my time in game all were between 5-15 minutes average. So to me MWO is a joke the mechs are like slow rolling butter cubes compared to MW4.You would have to play MW4 Mercenaries to really know how much better that game is compared to MWO overall. But MWO does have better graphics ill give it that but all else MWO is very shallow and lacking in comparison. ;)

Brawling is not unpopular, but it is also hazardous.

Most players like to play this game safe, it would seem, and longer range builds are easier to apply damage to your foe without taking any / as much damage yourself.

(based on my elo bracket)

Normally the match starts with careful positioning and ongoing long range engagement, but it always ends in a short range brawl.

The thing is that the players are very careful and peek over edges/cut corners so there is only a very short window to dish out damage.

This favours high alpha sniping builds.

Most of my 'Mechs are set up for close to medium range brawling.

Lots of battles start with the range and end up closer and closer until It's just an all out close range battle. But brawls are always fun.

Brawler at heart :]

The game will always move from one FOTM to the next. It's just how the world works.

I like to brawl... but have stopped.

Everything is just 11 SRM alphas , 14 Mlaser alphas or both.

There is no swinging or fighting ... no probign for weak spots...

just Blam blam clunk. no fun.

I still play my heavy brawler almost exclusively. The hard part is making yourself hang back just a TINY bit at the beginning of each mach until your snipers/scouts at least spot the enemy. Brawlers make BAD scouts unless there's tons of cover. My survivability plummets if I try to find them.

Brawling is simply the most satisfying type of combat in this game imo. I've thrown a PPC or two on my brawlers to deal with the larger maps, but they're still pretty much straight up brawlers.

Well my point was IF 9-10 years ago they made a true MechWarrior game you could play in a match 5-15 minutes and yes my mechs were damaged but still playable dodge incoming shots and still be alive what does it say about MWO? that mwo is fun for a few matches but after that its a grinding repetitive shallow game that is unrewarding in and way.
