Fantastic work! Yeah forgot all about Topps. Be careful big companies like that will sink you even if all your doing is covering cost.

Indeed.

Strange how quickly things change when there are money involved. I mean, lets assume I have the skills to make paper models using the MWO mechs, and I am distributing them freely no one will complain, even if I use the actual in game model with the texture no one will be pointing fingers yet I am still transgressing the copyright law. (well, I think I am). But if I ask 10cents per download, then all hell will break loose.

Good luck with the road that lies ahead, I really hope that you can come up with an agreement to who ever has the rights. This is a win win situation for all.

Are you using shapeways? Moddler is better if you want a print that doesn't have bad stepping:

However, I have to caution, you're getting into very bad legal territory. PGI/IPG have a copyright on that model and Topps has exclusive miniature publishing rights.

OMG this is great! You should really try getting into contact with the copyright holders and get the models shipping! Im sure there will alot of demand and all parties can benefit from this!

I've been saying for PGI to sell exactly this. I would force-feed them cash if they did.

Man, I want a large-scale model like the ones you have produced. One for each mech in my MWO bay! PGI, pay this man to do it for you! Afterall, they are no longer miniatures at that point, more so statues/figures. WANT!

I 2nd what someone else said in regards to buying actual physical merch. Produce stuff like this, shirts, etc, and the cash shall flow... (and yes, I know there are copyright headaches involved in the merch dept)

Totally stunning work.
Realy well done and very good painted.

Since some guys I know recently got a 3D printer by their own, I've got some questions regarding the 3D-models:

What programs are you using to exctract the models from the gamefiles and process them for 3d printing?

How do you decide in how many (and in which) parts you're breaking down the model?
Can you explain some of your thoughts when designing the hinges?
Is it just whether you want do make it movable or not or are there more reason?

Would you perhaps provide the processed 3D models so that other people can make/print their own?

And one question for the PGI guys:
If I'm making something like this just for my own and don't sell it (or make profit with it in any ohter way).. there aren't any copyright issues, right?

That's so good, it's probably illegal.
