If Atlas is a starter, it'll be Atlas, since everyone will just bumrush it for being the mech from the trailer.

If Atlas isn't a starter... It'll be Atlas again, since it'll be the first thing everyone will want to buy. It'll just happen later.

Everytime you find one of those threads along the lines of "What 'mech will you pilot" it's easy to find many Catapult fans. Players might like it because it can deliver fair amounts of fire power and also because you don't have to brawl with it (no one wants to die). The support job might be the hardest, it sounds like it will require quick thinking and good sense of judgement. Why? Your job as a support mech is to observe the huge battle and decide where to place shots based what specific team mate needs help or not.

I'm a catapult fan but honestly? i havent decided which mech i want for inception, it's either catapult or atlas and that's entirely based of of looks. My preference is speed with a big gun for a main mech but that doesn't mean i'm not a capable pilot in anything i want.

Thing is, This is a poll about, not our preferences, but what is going to be most common on the battle field. After all, There would be alot of new guys and they would obviously want the thing with a ton of armor and the atlas has that. Personally I am a light mech player and catapult fan

I hope not, but I think this will be an Atlas slug fest.
I hope I am wrong!

There's only 11 'mechs out, I expect we'll see them all quite often.

True, true. There are only 11 mechs so there will be alot of each. But I side with the dude who said that its gonna be an atlus slug fest. But there are also going to be alot of cataphracts and catapults. :)

I actually think the hunchback will be all over the place, It has the capability to start with double PPC's instead of the short range loadout. I expect sniper Hunchies to be quite common.

People will always go for the overpowered FOTM config. Whatever mech that might be.

i voted atlas because well, what everyone else said. personally i like the catapult. i like the long range it has, but i would like to use it with some ppc's and get up close and scare people with that kind of firepower. Or even a catapult with SRM-6's now that would throw off an enemy who gets in close thinking that it only has LRM's when if fact fires a good strong salvo of SRM to the face

Newbies are going to p*ss Atlases straight up the wall. It's going to suck. I'm actually concerned that that'll damage the game's financial success - newbies are going to make a stupid choice and pick the Atlas, see everyone else in Atlases, but they can't pick another mech unless they pay. Well, they aren't invested in the game enough to probably want to put money in, so their choice is to continue the Atlas cluster-f*** or fork out money.

You will see min/max players, I will bet you will also see people piloting just their favorite mech. I know i will pilot what I like not the "Flavor of the Month".

I too believe that we will see an over abundance of the Atlas for a while. Then the game will settle down into a more rational distribution of weight classes. Personally, I'm debating over the Centurion (which has several variants available in the game's timeframe) and the Cataphract (3D version), trying to stay with Davion flavored Mechs. Of course, by the time the game is launched we may have a bunch more Mechs to choose from. As is often stated in these threads, keeping my fingers crossed for the Unseen.

I voted atlas not because I want one or that I think it is best, but because I think many players will look at it and only see "biggest mech. most guns. most armor" and not notice any of its disadvantages.

However, I really hope they balance the deployment in some way.

I've just bumped the Atlas up to a Hundred votes, why? Because the Atlas is a lumbering assault mech with over 20 tons of armour and shattering firepower capabilities. A lot of people are gunna go for it, but I do expect a lot to then sell it and use something else because of a majority of reasons. 1. It'll be too common and in my opinion isn't a fun mech to play. 2. They'll get flanked by lights, taunted by them and then a comparable Heavy or Assault will then kill them. Its also a very famous mech in the series and WILL be the backbone of any frontline.

Me personally I'm more liking to Clan mechs, I'm still not sure what my starter choice will be, but I like Infighters, so probably a Hunchback for me.

While Frostiken has a point, this is free-to-play and therefor you can get other mechs without forking over the money.

Personally, from looking at what everyone is saying about the Atlas, I think they're going to want to take it out and test it. It has amazing armor and brutal weapons at almost any range. That said, I don't think it'll be a very good go-to mech for anyone but the Newbies, simply because the vets will know that speed and maneuverability often turn the tide of a battle just as much as armor and weapons. Will the Atlas make its presence felt on the battlefield? Absolutely. Will it be the go-to, end-all mech that dominates the battlefield every time? No. The cost of the mech to replace is too prohibitive to allow for that. After all, SOMEONE'S going to figure out how to take an Atlas down using nothing but a Medium mech (the gods will laugh if they pull it off in a light one!), and then the Atlas player would find themselves hanging their head in shame and hoping they can buy a mech with their credit card... and praying their card doesn't max out doing so!
