I just wanted to see what most of the people in 8v8 are driving/seeing on their drops that do well in the 8v8 environment.

While I know that cats are getting a rep in the general forums about being op, I really don't see that many of them in the 8v8 setting.

Please only direct your poll answers to 8v8 specifically, and not what works for you in pug drops.

I am only including Mediums, and Heavies since I think most people would answer raven and altas for the light and assault weight classes.

Please post the specific load out of the chassis/variant that you voted for and why you think it is a good choice.

*JagerMech is included since it is about to be released, but isn't meant to be voted on until some solid drops have been conducted using it.

The centurion is one of the hardest mechs to kill in the game, it makes such a good zombie brawler.

STD 260 engine, 2 meds and x3 srm6's make it a potent fighter and hard to pass up.

As for heavies when it comes to versatility the catapult has it all, at 65 tons there isn't a roll that can't be filled by it. From Boom-cats, Streak Cats, LRM-Cats, Spat cats to Beamer-cats the list goes on and on.

At this time I can't evaluate the Jagermech, though the different versions look promising, truth be told so much is going to ride on things like torso twist, ect ect before distinctions are going to arise.

You'll see 3SRM6 2ML Centurions, ECM Cicadas, and occasionally PPC Trebuchets for the mediums. SRM/AC20 Catapults and jump sniping Cataphracts for the heavies.

Of these, no one mech is really better than the others. It depends on what type of a setup your team is doing. For a brawler team, you're going to see Centurions and Splat/AC20 Cats. Sniper team will of course have 3D poptarts. Some teams run mixed groups, depends on how your team decides to play.

You are seeing less Catapults in 8's because the larger maps coming out now are pushing teams toward more sniper-oriented builds. Also teams may be playing according to league drop decks that limit the numbers of each weight class (0 to 3 mechs of a certain weight class, depending on the deck) whereas in pugs you might possibly drop against two 4-man groups of Splatcats.

I run a Trebuchet 7M with 3 ML and 3 SRM6+ Artemis. With an XL295 it isn't hard to kill if you can get a bead on it but it packs a hell of a punch in an ambush and can get away in a hurry with a speed tweak.

I never drive a heavy because if I'm going big I want big! And thats a DDC.

I definitely see more CN9-A's in 8 mans over pugs.

Additionally there is another thing the Catapult has going for it over the Jagermech.

STD engined Cents A, sometimes AL (in substitution of 4SP).

For the heavies the usual Catapults (splatpults, boomcats, sometimes Gausspult are still effective); also jumpy CTF 3Ds.

The jager.. besides dual AC20 faster-than-the-boomcat I don't see much use of it in competitive at all. To do Dual AC 20 you'll need a XL engine, the size of the side torsoes is all to be discovered AND the size of the CT seems huge. So if you want to use a STD engine on it, you'll probably need to use one even smaller than those that boomcats can achieve, since k2s can strip all the armor from the arms away.. and on the Jager you'll need it!

I don't know about the JagerMech myself. I plan to pick at least one up in the short term... but the armor is thin for a heavy, without the increased speed of a Dragon.

What are you on about? The JagerMech can carry as much armor as any other 65 ton heavy (Catapult). Stock armor values mean nothing.

Depends on drop formations. Brawlers would take a CN9-A over a TBT-7M. Likewise, a brawler formation would probably take a CPLT-A1 over a CTF-3D. Now, swap from brawlers to snipers and those selections would likely change.

The JM6-A is actually not half bad. Sort of a Cata - C4 without jump jets, but two ballistic hard points. I loaded one out with 4x6srms, 2 medium lasers, 2 machine guns for crits and lolz, and its pretty good.

Once they fix the head hit box that is.

Has anyone had a chance to play the Jager in 8v8?
