I would agree to peoples perception of "dooooom" if it was not for the fact that every game and every forum ever is always filled with them..

Exactly this. Its impossible to take someone seriously, despite if they have good points or not, when they play the doomsday card. If your argument is sound, then you don't need to play the doom card to make it valid. Valid complaints and suggestions should be valid on there own. Not because its attached to some bull**** doomsday hogwash.

Two things: Devs that spend time fixing the "problems" thrown up by a community is time that is not spent on developing the actual game. There's still a "BETA" tag on this, right? The game is less than a year in public. Still quite young. Also, despite the outcry, I think PGI handled the reworking of consumables in a way that should give you a little faith. They heard you, and tried something beside the idea that had us all in uproar.

Second: The OP brought up the lack of a hook, and the grognards came out of the woodwork griping about their pet issues. Thus, the lead was buried. I think the OP is on to something. This game needs a hook. It needs more than just mechs just blowing the hell out of each other - it needs Community Warfare, it needs continuity, it needs something. I want to join a faction, get some sort of assignment, and then drop into combat and attack or defend or whatever.

My Spider needs something more to do than to dart around and shoot stuff. Give me an objective to pick up! If not, why do I have hand actuators?!? I want my lack of firepower to mean something. I want diverse opportunities to serve.

S!

Should not bother you if I punch in a whopping 3 more key strokes when starting a post :D If people do not understand it, not my problem at all :) Won't change it nor put it in a signature. And you are right, this is not a simulator :P Just a shooter with remote elements from sims :P

The number of smiley faces in your posts is also starting to bother me.

Also, it actually takes 5 keystrokes. Shift, S, 1, Enter, Enter

What? We should point out every flaw in the game. Thats why where here.
The whole reason for all this is so they can fix the bugs/problems we find.

I'm not saying the doomsday prophets are in the right, but neither are you by being evangelical of the whole thing.

I'm just saying there are mature and proper ways to doing this, instead of trying to put insults and doomsday theory's in a sad, pathetic attempt to garner attention. News flash: These are the posts that get ignored. So you're only hurting yourselves by ruining your posts in such a manor.

S!

I can add even more of them for your convenience. Do not be too uptight or take pressure on what other people do or not. I for sure do not go around here being a forum grammar and posting police, let people post what and how they like as long as it is within the Forum Rules. Move on, nothing to see anymore. Back to topic.

OMG someone intelligent that finally gets it +10 read mine and others topics and posts we have been trying to tell PGI this and much more since early development. But it seams to have fallen on deaf ears.---> Posted Image

The top 10 variants are within .15 K/D of eachother.

A flaw is a bug, sir. Not something that you don't like. Some people don't like having to keep their heads down to avoid LRMs. That doesnt make LRMs a flaw, it means they need to adapt.

Also, I'm surprised you'd call me an evangelist when I spend the entire second half of my post saying that the game needs major work. Reading is more than just fun, its productive!

Yeah, of the actual working points we brought up, he addresses the infernal balance post. THE GAME CANNOT BE PERFECTLY BALANCED. Well, I guess it could if we take away all the weapons.

@KingCobra - with ya, bro. Let's team up.

what scares me is the possibility it is slow not due to lack of developers, but due to lack of quality and experience. good developers even on a small team can do some amazing things. inexperience leading to poor code design will make it nearly impossible for the game to progress.

This is pretty obvious in a couple of ways if we look at the most recent patch.
  • Code isn't modular. When the devs added in training grounds, they introduced 2 bugs. The first one is that the launch/ready button is now bugged when you are the group leader and it unreadies you instead of launching. This is a new bug added in with training grounds.
  • Second example of non-modular code is again easy to see with the training grounds where the weapons are doing different damage live-game vs training grounds. This shouldn't even be possible. The developer should have one code path for both.

WOW. Really?

How about the raven 2x vs the 3L?

How about any of the cents vs the Cent-A?

How about the C4 - A1?

How about D-DC to the K?

There is a game with what 40 mechs? and you are going to talk about 10 of them being good. How many weapons are crap?

How many modules are crap?

Why is it every other game we hear about has had a 5+ year Dev/Debug cycle to be "Cool" and be "All That" but for some reason PGI didn't even get 2?

Bummer really. Perhaps if they closed the Forums and re-opened them in 3 years we could have another Poll... LOL :)

Every other game did not take cash while in beta?

Edit; not talking about founders program.

Well, MWO has few issues with gameplay design and specially gameplay narrative.
some other MW games and mods did it better IMO and had higher replayability.

MWO has some nice new design ideas tho.

EDIT: Then again, its beta. I just hope it will come out this year. Since Beta's today are not what I would call Beta really.

So now FACTS or no good either. Back under your bridge Troll!
What facts>.15 of a unknown variable? thanks for making this interesting topic and posts into your own off topic discussion. Does that mean I go around insulting PGI saying to change everything I don't like? No! But theirs plenty, and I mean plenty of things where are opinions on there decisions are incredibly imported for the good of the game for all players and PGI. No one wants to see this game fail, hence why where all passionate to try to prevent this game from going down the wrong path. For better or worst.

I don't know if I should call such a community a curse or a blessing for PGI. Guess it all depends on how you look at it. +20 :)

Funny how stats go a long well to quell these types of threads, if only we had more of them... (stats, not threads).

Doom is popular, it's the new black in online games, however if you go back and read through the dev blogs, you saw most of the devs interviewed were brand spanking new to online games and specifically this type of online game.

Throw in a new engine, a new publisher, and you've got a mix for something that will take some time to even out.

Some of us are a bit easier on the 'DOOM' button than others, that doesn't mean we don't have concerns or roll our eyes at certain things, it just means we don't spray it all over the forums.

Ah man..Utter failure.

What i dont get, from another game designers point of view, is why some people at PGI fail to see the blatantly obvious? And also why when mistakes are made, theres this apparently huge problem just fessing up to the community/founders that "hey, umm...whoops...we made a mistake, we do that...heres the quick fix until we can seriously get into it more".

"Someone" or someones there must have MASSIVE egos, thats all i can think of. Simply....massive.

I mean...I really would like to have about an hour sit down with them and just try to understand the process or justifications. I grew up on the EC of NA, and was in GD in my mid to late 20s, early 30s and working for a fairly well known distributor on the EC as well....Is it really just a difference between Canadian and American thinking/process or just a very, very poorly run company?
