There is nothing wrong with the JM's head hitbox.
People are mistakenly attributing the results of the current splash damage bug to the head of the JM.

ALL mechs currently are being headshotted by LRM's... Even the Atlas, which has the smallest head in the game.

Ironically... The reason the Atlas' hit-box is so small..
Early in the beta, Atlases were useless because their cockpit hitbox was large and LRM splash was much more significant. A couple of LRM barrages were almost guaranteed to destroy an Atlas' cockpit.

Ah, the old headhunter LRMs. I kept on piloting my Atlas straight through that mess. Gods, those were rough days. Easy to forget how far we've come.

Kids these days will never know the terror of the Slunchbacks, or of the pre-Raven Jenners, or of the Gausscats. Oh the rivers of tears.

The Jagers head is far far too large. It's so large infact it can be shot from behind, by anything from SRM fire, to AC2s at extreme range.

It's head is hittable from the sides easily as well so there's no torso twisting to save your face.

It's easily the worst feature of the mech.

Try taking a full LRM volley in the catapult. Try it BEFORE this patch, for that matter.

The JGM has a vulnerable head hitbox, yup, just like the Catapult.

The main difference is that people don't have the JGM efficiencies yet, and the typical JGM loadouts preclude making them fast and maneuverable. So the headshot issue is more noticeable... plus of course everyone is driving the JGM now. I'm sure we'd be seeing just as much outrage if the Catapult had just been introduced yesterday instead.

But welcome to the Open Cockpit Club, Jagermechwarriors, where only Real Men are allowed. :)

I wanted to say, I appreciate your optimistic explanation...seriously

Trust me, it's not the same. I tested with full armor in my Jagermech versus several other mechs. I was consistently getting 1-shot kills to the head when in the Jagermech. The other mechs were certainly registering more head damage than usual, but not even close to the same extent. To put it in perspective: I died nearly every match to a headshot in the Jagermech and not once in any other mech.

There's definitely a problem with the Jagermech's head, armor, or something that's unique to that chassis. I have NEVER died that fast in any other mech. Furthermore, every other Jagermech was basically a free kill for me when I was piloting my other mechs.

LOL yea Ive gotten head shotted by LRMs twice.

Ditto. My mech was ~80% health, no armor breaches and a volley of LRM 15s just devastated my head in an instant. It was a rage moment for sure.

I'm putting my jager away till something gets done about it.

Ah well it was a fun mech while it lasted. Back to my Dragons which are 100 times more survivable.

That should really put that into perspective, the Dragon pilot looks at your mech and goes "man that thing is a death trap"

Agreed on the Jager head hitbox being too accessible. I also have been seen more head kills in all my mechs since the patch due to all missiles. My Cataphract was head cored by SRMs last night.

No doubt there is something wrong with head hitbox. First game in Jagger and I died by headshot. It is odd that PGI does not have any good internal beta testers. It is not the first time when head hitboxes are too big.

You are the beta tester... gj, you found an issue :)

Yep Agreed. Feels even bigger than the catapults now. Sadly it seems that missiles of all types home in on the head.

I played 6 games in my jagermech yesterday and died from headshots in 5 of them, the last time was from an srm volley that took off my right arm, right shoulder and head,my centre torso took no damage at all. When you look at the cockpit from outside its really quite small unlike the catapults bay window sized front screen so i don't know why it should have such a big hit box in game.My jager will be staying in the mechbay until something is done to fix this

I was headshot maybe 10 times in my new JM6 last night, by LRMs, SRMs, and ballistics. That's more headshot deaths than I've gotten in all my other mechs and games combined. I've maybe racked up 10 total since starting the game in June of last year. There's no question the head hitbox of the JM6 is too large.

Catapult is a good model to go after: the only other mech I've ever been headshot in, and that's happened maybe once a month for the past year. I know being disagreeable is the way things go around here, but the amount of feedback about the issue should give you some hint that it's a bit much.

Seriously, it's not THAT big.

The problem is that currently, SPLASH DAMAGE is affecting the head.. and, as I said, it's currently affecting ALL mechs.

Drive any mech in the game currently, and you will die by headshots, over and over again. It's not just the JM

To be clear, the head is certainly not SMALL.. it's about the same size as the pult or the awesome, currently.

It may need to be tweaked, but changing it at this point would be a mistake, until after they fix the splash damage effects. You won't be able to properly judge the real size of the problem until after you remove the craziness that is in effect from missile weapons.

Except I'm being headcapped rather often by direct fire stuff. It's not missiles. It's lasers raking over my CT and burning off my cockpit armor. It's incoming ballistics fire striking dead center CT and sloughing off a ton and a half of armor off my cockpit. This is happening far more in the Jager than it does in any of my other mechs (and I pilot every chassis but the 'Mando, Raven, Cicada, Catapult, and Awesome). It needs to be toned down a bit.

I died from LRMs exactly once of my 10 headshot deaths. Like Nader points out, I'm being headshotted by every weapon in the game, so it's not me overestimating the head box because of splash damage. And I'm not overestimating the number of headshot deaths I experienced last night. I'm okay with a head hitbox in CT... I'm okay with the Cat and the Phract, for example... but I have never been headshot in a phract, I've only been headshot in a cat maybe 5 times in almost a year of play. Compare that to the ballistic/laser/srm headshots I experienced last night and it's not even close.

A poster in one of the threads about the JM6 mentions how he headpopped three JM6s in three consecutive shots with ballistics. He could have been lucky, but I'll blame the head hitbox given my own experience.

I have noticed in TG that I have been headshoting catapults. I think this is due to splashdamage bugs.

It is a known issue since before the patch, but seems to have gotten worse (tho likely because players are not used to big heads).
