As I have often posted I wish MWO would have been a MMORPG for all of us that even includes players that have not had the privilege of playing in MechWarrior back in its golden days. Its a simple fact that players that become fans of a IP play and stay longer in MMORPG or MMO type games than the current game model MWO is. So im asking everyone on the forums there opinion what character role would you have played in MWO if you had a character and a BT Universe to play it in? For me it would be a engineer I have always built and rebuilt everything I could get my hands on in the real world from a clock to a PC game cars etc. So I could imagine myself in this BT universe having a mech plant or plants building and selling them on open markets. I do this in a limited way playing STO but I played eve for 3 years and ruled 1/100 th of the market in manufacturing ships and items. Please feel free to share who or what you would have liked to be or play in the BT Universe?. Posted Image Posted Image

I would have loved to play a Clan Newbie Mechwarrrior fresh out of the sibkos on the eve of the initial invasion. Maybe if/when the clans ever get here I can still do it.

"OK guys, now let me tank, I'm an Atlas!" "No, I will speed tank in my Jenner!" "You noob you need to get a DPS mech, not that good for nothing toy!"

"Lets go guys, let's PvP!" "I can't, I need to farm X dungeon for Y large laser mk Z! Last time I ran it a hunchback ninja looted!"

"Hey guys, where's the mount vendor for our mechs?"

"You %*#(@ noobs! I told you to let the tank get aggro first before you start DPS'ing the clan mobs!"

"Hey why did you kick me from the party?" "Because your DPS must be at least over XXX damage! And you need better gear! Your mechscore sucks!"

It is? Please cite your source. I might be inclined to believe you if you listed WoW as your only MMORPG or refused to include WoT in your stats but I'd like to see your source for that claim. Given that WoT has had more success and continues to have higher player retention than SWTOR, I'm skeptical about your claim.

If I was PGI I would hire you for PR you have such a grand sense of humor. Plus look at it this way if it was World of Battletech I don't think you would ever get bored. And I would wing you any day for that XXX damage laser.

It could be interesting, but it would have to be completely unlike WoW to work. And it would require a massive undertaking as far as ... well all the things I suppose.

Make the initial area start along some clan occupation zone and limit the available factions to something like, FedSuns, Jade Falcon, or merc corps? And then add in more areas with each xpac. But then how would the economy function, it wouldn't really be player driven like Eve, as players wouldn't be crafting LLs or targeting computers or mining lol. Idk I can see it being interesting but also... very difficult to get into.

As long as it is not another WoW clone I would be fine with it. So many MMORPG WoW clones out there.

I really wish game developers would let Star Wars die on the vine like Yoda in his dirty bed. They keep resurrecting that franchise to no avail and it is really sad to watch. It was almost like watching Micheal Jordan think just because he was great at basketball he could be a major league baseball star as well. Just let it go and retire gracefully.

I expect if MWO is around in 5yrs that community warfare may be fully developed by then or it could be dominated by a few mega guilds and drive people out of that metagame. If the clans ever make an appearance it will be a mass exodus to that tech the likes the world has never seen before. It will get to a point where you cant compete unless your IS mech is sporting clan tech. So NO I dont see MWO as having any lifespan as an MMORPG at all, it will be difficult for it to stay balanced and keep people as it is with what we already will probably have access to.

Sorry if I am completely incoherent but I am running on less than 2hrs sleep in 24 so bear with me.

Star Wars is a treasure trove right now. Players are DYING (me included) for a BF3, RC2, and KOTOR3. So far there have only been sucky mediocre games like Star War Kinect and that stupid MMORPG game that is out.

Its a treasure trove of craptasticness...Not a word but all I could think of. KOTOR2 was a borked up follow up to the great game the first one was. What makes you even remotely think they would do a 3rd one justice? No offense intended but people like you and me are the reason they keep making S hitty Star wars games, because they know we will buy them.

SWTOR had a lot of potential, but they kind of crapped it away by cloning wow and then making their pvp armor system completely ******* awful. I read a quote in which the Devs were surprised that people wanted to PVP in their game. Wat

I disagree. Star Wars is amazing, in depth, and very addicting. I don't buy awful Star Wars games. They just started to appear after BF2 came out. Developers got lazy I guess. KOTOR 3 could easily do KOTOR 2 justice if it is spectacular. Games about the race that built the Star Forge (I forgot what they are called) would fly off the walls.

It had sooooooo much potential. But, like you said, they made it more like WoW which is not what people want. Developers see the success of WoW and then try and clone it. What they don't realize it that never works out. When a game stands out more people want it which is why TESO will be so popular. Hopefully nobody messes that up.

Anyone see that new game Bungie is coming out with? It does not look that bad either. Maybe because it is not like WoW. :P

I truly in my heart and mind believe if PGI had made MWO a MMORPG with planetary PVP ladder systems and PVE with your character aero ships or mechs it would have been game of the year Plus a live market system. Being a 20+ year fan of BT/TT/MechWarrior/ETC that's what I would have liked for every fan of the Battletech/TT/Fan/Mech/ETC community. Posted Image

Actually, given that it is the crux of your claim, I'd say it is not off topic.

So, Eve is 10 years old and struggling to break the 500k mark, I suppose you don't want to compare it to WoT which is 5 years old (original Russian release), has 45 million registered accounts and set a single-server record of 500,000 simultaneous users on one of their three regional servers....

The comparisons between PvE and PvP (and blended games) is apples, oranges and pomegranates. It's worth noting that PvP (only) is one of the easiest designs to code because it eliminates huge portions of the coding load. No AI and little to no content to design relatively speaking. Almost all content is player-driven (i.e. the new tactics come from the guy on the other end of the line, not a new AI or a change to code). It's a very cheap business model compared to development of PvE content which is (sadly) why it is more and more common.

Don't get me wrong. I have played a number of MMOs and prefer sandboxes like Eve and even directed PvE like WoW. I didn't expect to enjoy the WoT model given the negative taste that I have for PvP from the MMORPG environment however I gave it a chance and had a lot of fun, just like I am doing here. I recognize, however, the business realities. I routinely walk through the software aisles in stores and lament the fact that less than about 1 game in 10 does not include a number at the end. New development and new game design is a dead thing. Even this game could just as easily be relabeled WoT: The Mechoning.

In the long run, you are left with two options. Pick the things from the market that you actually like and support them or step into the market and fill the hole that you see yourself.

Yes. No World of Battletech, but a Battletech MMORPG does not sound that bad. If its not another WoW clone then I would be fine with it.

It's not like an MMORPG version has to be a seamless universe. You could still limit it to battlefield maps. But it's about how you go about it that matters. Adding immersion, giving people a reason, feeling like you are really building your way up to become a great mechwarrior. Instead of just grinding out cash to buy another mech for your hanger.

Am I the only one that would want to start in a stock light mech with a faction, building my way up to better mechs of the faction? Battling the enemy faction players who are in a similar boat to me. Feeling like I'm actually part of something would definitely give me more motivation.
