Please for the love of everything good in the Universe. Do not make 3rd person please. Do not even waste time developing third person. You will lose a good number of loyal fans. This is the best Mech Warrior title revival to date and do not screw it up with a 3rd person view. Please.

Made me think back to when I first saw the trailer in what '08? Seeing that Warhammer and Atlas... oh yeah man.

then the unseen hit again, then the game is out to the public but seriously unfinished. No CW, balance issues, bugs, lack of content... then stuff about consumables and now 3rd person.

Have to be honest, from that trailer to now its been a pretty constent downhill slide.

Over the many debated topics in this game about balance, game mechanics and other things, this is the one thing that pretty much the entire player base says no to. Yet PGI still keeps screwing around with the idea, what the hell are you guys smoking? Invest the energy into getting your game working properly, Community Warfare, hell here's an idea, maybe even two mechs a month. Quit wasting time working on stuff no one wants.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann characters and mecha can never be posted enough. :)

Was badly sick this Christmas. I have seen all the movies that is worth seeing so I took a wild torrent ride into the darkside of anime. Shockingly some anime is okay and entertaining. TTGL was ridiculous but still somewhat entertaining. The scale is impressive at the end.

Edit; and that knife-***** "thing"

It's a sad truth, but we can all agree on this one statement.

At least we have a Mechwarrior game right now.

Too late. They already have been working on it. I don't understand why people would leave though, you know the only way that will happen is if they force 3rd person players into 1st person matches, or force 3rd person on the whole community. If they did that, sure, but they have stated this wouldn't be the case. And I really don't think PGI could or would be THAT stupid.

Jumping on the bandwagon, be warned English is not my native tongue :

I got interrested in the game because it was "Mechwarrior", and because Bryan Eckman stated clearly that PGI wanted "a Mech Simulation". I had a few friends that were picked up in the early closed beta, that confirmed that the game "felt like Mechwarrior', which prompted me to buy the Founder's package (Veteran at first, then upgraded to legendary when I played).

Over the course of the past year, PGI has turned a deaf ear on numerous issues brought to their attention :
- Ballistics firing delay (which is still there)
- Poor balancing of weapons due to the medling with Double Armor.
- The DHS fiasco : Seriously, 3 seconds Jenner?
- Machine gun "Crit seeker" useless
- ECM
- Perfect convergence of weapons
- Discovery of Incorrect Missile damage due to splash.
- ... Numerous others, that I forgot about and I'm too lazy to search for.

To respond to those concerns we have :
- Announcement of Coolant pods and Consumables
- The promise of future "Command Chair" posts, that we have yet to see (3 months to type, they must be huge)
- LRMpocalypse (good job in testing there...)
- Various troll posts including "command chair" posts with "Mr Pay to Win" (good job Paul in slapping your concerned userbase in the face).
- Twitch TV events, which show how mediocre some PGI staff are at understanding their own game.
- And Now, after a massive rebutal from their player base, they still plan to include 3rd person.

As of now, I have no more plans on spending any real money on that game, and I would be really interrested to know where my original 120$ went, because at that price, I have two finished games OR 3x Starcraft 2 (you know that little game that is the actual standard esport game, and is regularly updated, and yet is not F2P ?).

If anyone at PGI reads up this, try to ponder it for an instant from the perspective of any player. You are not looking good, and by those repeated mistakes either in communication, or in developement direction, you are loosing the support of longtime fans of the franchise.
It may mean nothing to you, but I'm sure you will be loosing money on the long run. Being in a "Forever Beta" does not excuse the current state of the game.

I hope so too, but it's still a business and I've seen weird things in the past. Thing is, if PGI alienates the core community, will the "new" community they might aim for actually support the game?

To whoever brought up the "Fact" that there aren't threads complaining about coolant all over the forum anymore, therefor we're all obviously okay with it [we aren't]

It's because the mods lock every single thread and direct people to the official coolant feedback thread instead, we're not allowed to make threads about coolant, probably because it's easier to control what we say when it's all limited to one thread and produces a false sense of the community being "okay" with it.

Propaganda and spin doctoring, basically.

Very well, my mistake. It's nearly 6am, and I read it wrong. The case still is that it's a veiled white knighting reference, and unto itself is cause for dismissal of an argument.

Er, no. He was quite clearly referencing this:

About five posts into a thread about a subject that would obviously generate controversy. That's not white knighting, that's trolling. It's also unprofessional, and pretty ******* stupid.

This, it's a very effective pr tool because once people cave to it any one taking a cursory look at the forums is unaware that the problem is even being discussed.

I'll tell you something about battletech, that applies to all these old series.

It's an ancient, pretty much dead franchise. What you see here are all the people who are interested in mechwarrior and battletech. There's no one else out there for THEM to recruit, or 'bring into the fold,' but we can convince our friends to give giant, stompy robots a try.

Them adding 3rd person to 'broaden appeal' is like if the next 40k game is about an ultramarine who's falling in love with an eldar woman. It doesn't do anything, except make the actual players angry, and said players will then tell their friends not to bother with the game.

I liked it better when they got rid of RnR. We saw quite the growth all of sudden. I got my friends to play the game, and despite the flaws and bad netcode, it was deemed to be a really good, counter-strike'esque shooter, with cool art.

Now? World of mechs, run by people who you can't really trust.

@MechWarriorF2P If 3rdp view gives any kind of situational awareness benefit over 1stp view players on the same battle, MWO is dead to me.

Well ultimately that's a decision they will need to make. Where dose the line fall? There are plenty of 3rd person players from the Mechwarrior franchise, MW4 and the console games. I've never enjoyed it, and activily avoided it. I don't want to play 3rd person in MWO, it's not why I play. But if PGI can ring fence an area for 3rd person players, then happy days for them. I'd rather see a system that helps being players into the game, using 3rd person as a way to help players to the franchise get used to piloting and then put them into a 1st person perspective. Anyway there is room for both, as long as it's done right, and PGI consider the needs of both 1st and 3rd perspective players and the impact on the game then it should be ok.

The problem with this is that in the long term it will probably reduce the number of new players who stay long enough to pay. They will be 'sold' the game as Third Person, because that's obviously what they want, right? They'll then log onto the Third Person queue which will be a barren wasteland of poptarters and confused newbies with all the influence of clay pigeons. They won't stay long, and very few will likely think to try the First Person queue where everyone who doesn't want MWO:PoptartOverloadEdition! will have migrated.

Did that already happen in some horrid game?

On topic:

Its about time someone from PGI makes a post and stops all this. Just let us know if there will be YES or NO to 3 rd person view in the game or if its something we will only see in training mode.
